Can someone here help me please. I am looking to install a hard start capacitor in my Dometic AC on my 2015 179 rpod. Has anyone here done this? If so what model capaciter did you use? I am looking at:

but, I don't know if this will work, or which model (1/2-3hp... 1-4hp etc..) to buy.

I have a Honda eu3000si generator, and I am trying to lessen the power draw when the compressor kicks on, so that I can run in eco throttle mode. We are also planning a summer trip to the mountains, and I hear the elevation can be an issue. Thanks a ton!!

   I did and I didn't you can read through the thread "air conditioning" in Podmods,Maintenance, Tips and Tricks. There you will find that furpod installed the hard start capacitor.

The EU3000is has more than enough power to run the A/C, sometimes even another major appliance at the same time.  I have that generator and a larger A/C on my Salem and it doesn't have a problem in Eco mode.  Your A/C may have a problem.

I think my AC is fine, but my Progressive industries EMS unit is very picky. If there is a drop in voltage, even momentarily below what the EMS unit deems safe... poof it cuts everything off. I think the generator on Eco mode, has to ramp up suddenly to provide power for the compressor to kick in. During this moment, I think there is a drop in voltage far enough to set off the EMS system.

I am trying to install a larger capacitor to ease this drop in voltage so that my EMS doesn't freak out. I suppose I could turn off the EMS while using my generator, since the risk of surge, over/under voltage is probably very minimal.

I would say this is an OK answer, you do in fact know the power from the genny is fine.

Ditto.  Turn the EMS off, the problem isn't with the generator.  There is very little chance of any of the problems it protects you from while you are on the genset.

I can vouch for turning off the EMS when using a generator.  My air con starts and runs great with my Yamaha 2400 with the EMS off.  The air con won't start with it on and the EMS shuts down everything for several seconds if I try.  Been there, done that.

Plus most smaller generators like the ones mentioned above have floating neutrals, which if you don't correct the EMS will shut down with a fault.

Easily fixed for a few bucks with a dummy plug in one of the outlets, which gives you the ability to remove it if you hook the generator up to a house (which already has the neutral connected to ground at one point - and there should only be one point).

You may find there's a hidden load you are also running - If the water heater switch is set to run on 120 volt power you also have 11 amps (or so) of load while it's heating. That together with the start current from the air conditioner will cause the generator to reject the load if set to "econ". I'd check that possibility before going to the effort of adding the hard start capacitor.

In terms of setting expectations, remember that the generator output will drop significantly at high altitude. You won't notice much at 5-6 thousand feet but you sure will notice at 10,000.

Even at 6000 feet you'll lose 21%.

Yeah, I already had to make a dummy plug, as the floating ground was causing the EMS to throw an E2 error. Since I already bought the hard start capacitor, I will probably install it since it seems pretty easy to do. I will likely just turn the EMS off though when running the genny. The switch on the LED read out box is the power switch right? I've never had a reason to turn it off before.
