Hello All! I have been reading a lot of posts on this forum for a while now. I am not an R-pod owner yet and it will be a year or two before this happens but I wanted to go ahead an register and chat with owners about their R-Pods. I grew up camping in a pop-up camper. My wife, who didn't camp like this, isn't into the pop-up thing. I can understand what she is saying because of a few years ago her first pop-up experience was with my family in a loaded Coleman Pop-up at the Outer Banks KOA in August. It was HOT, and that is putting it mildly. We had 7 people sleeping in the camper and the AC wasn't keeping up. The KOA was really busy and the bathrooms were pretty dirty most of the time (you know how sand can be in the Outer Banks if you have ever stayed there). Needless to say my wife said, after that experience, she will never camp like that again. I guess that I can't blame her. I love camping. Most of my fondest childhood memories come from trips to the beach (I dearly love the beach too). This was sad and it seemed like another set-back as I always wanted to take my kids camping, when we have them. Currently I own a small sailboat. I recently downsized from a 30 foot boat to a 23 foot boat. I threw my wife into the mix on the first boat but the hot temperatures of the Chesapeake Bay summers got the better of her and her migraines. I sold the 30 footer and went down to the 23 which is my cruising boat. I spend a lot of time sailing in the Chesapeake Bay area. Two times a year I go out for 7-14 days on the boat. This is my first full season cruising the 23 (Compac 23). Why??? The biggest reason is a big one. We have a Mastiff Puppy that we got almost a year ago (she is 14 months now). She is 100 pounds. Trying to find a hotel that will let us bring her is hard and we would prefer not to board her most of the time (she is bonded to us and strongly prefers our company).  Campgrounds allow dogs and we would be able to bring her with us. The R-pod seems to be affordable, hard sided, and my wife likes the idea of having a bathroom. I like the idea of the fiberglass roof (I hate the idea of the rubber roof etc and I don't have Airstream Money). Currently, our favorite model is the 179. The dealership near us is finally getting them in stock and they are also getting the new 180 in stock. Reines RV in Manassas, VA is the closest dealer. Oh, btw, my Tow vehicle is a 2008 Toyota Tacoma Off Road with a Tow Package. I should be okay with weight as I can tow up to 6500 pounds. She tows my boat, which is a bit heavy, with a 4500 pounds (loaded) with a 1000 dual axel trailer. I have a lot of experience towing as well.

Welcome to the forum! An R Pod is the way to go for three huge reasons - a bed that doesn't fold up (in our 177), a bathroom for us who have to make late night trips and A/C. All the rest is a bonus! ------------- I am currently unsupervised....the possibilities are endless! |

I have to agree with you Debbie. I love the size/look/set-up of them. They seem to be designed very practically!

We have a 2013 177. I look at the new ones every year and haven't seen one that fits our needs better. I even took ours out for 2 weeks by myself this summer (age 60+). Wisconsin to Pennsylvania. Pulling is a breeze, set up pretty simple. My hardest chore is backing up and there is always someone to help me do that! ------------- I am currently unsupervised....the possibilities are endless! |
