Got this information recently from Forest River and went and got some better pics of it to share with everyone.

This is from Dometic and Forest River as to now "officially" fix a beeping fridge

The basics:

Take off your blue cover over the fridge door light/alarm.

Peel back about 1 inch of the tape behind the sensor to expose the channel where the wires come out.

Fill the end of that channel surrounding the wires with silicone and then replace the tape and cover.

Based on info posted here recently, shouldn't the aluminum fins also be removed to see if there is an air gap behind them, and then seal that area if there is?

What type of silicone is best? Just door & window caulk?

Dometic and Forest River both say 100% this is all that is needed.

I get what you're saying and I myself would probably find the initial entry point where the wires even come in and seal that hole, but I think they wanted to make this something easy owners could do at home in a few minutes.

I understand the argument for simplicity. Cheaper and faster for dealers and owners to fix so the symptom goes away.

But I think the root cause is that huge hole. Not to mention it is counterproductive, especially with an RV fridge, to have a hole in it letting in warm air. Especially in the rear where the hottest air is.

Sorry to keep sounding like an idiot, but will any silicone caulk do?

It should. Your biggest decision is to either go with white, or clear.

Actually, when I took the light cover off, my wires go from the connector shown in the picture directly into the side of the fridge through a small hole with a gasket around it. Not sure if Dometic has different models or what. I put a bit of dielectric grease on the connection as long as I was in there and will call it good (I hadn't had any problems. But why wait until the middle of the night to find out!)

There are a lot of different models yes, so this could be differently run in many of them.  Some don't even have these wires at that location but they entire from behind the panels themselves.
