Topic: 2016 Eastern Roundup
Posted By: HuronSailor
Subject: 2016 Eastern Roundup
Date Posted: 08 Aug 2015 at 11:30am
The next Eastern Roundup will be held in Traverse City, MI, at the Timber Ridge Resort and Campground. The owner has agreed to set aside a block of water/electric and full hookup sites for us to reserve for a designated time period. After that it's a first come/first serve basis. Their computer can start taking reservations for our event this coming September, so they'll be contacting me sometime that month with details on the reservation period, site numbers, deposit info, etc. They can accommodate early arrivals and late stays too.

There's so much to to in Traverse City that campground activities will be kept to a minimum. We'll probably have the traditional meet and greet campfire and a campfire hot dog night, but otherwise go out and explore this fabulous area.

One event we do have planned is a vineyard tour/wine tasting. Traverse City has more vineyards than Napa valley. We've chosen a tour company that will come to the campground and take us on a tour. The owner used to sell Forest River products and is excited about taking part in our event. Details on prices and how to reserve a spot will come later.

Look for the event in the rpod owners Facebook page. There's some links to things to do and see, and more info will be posted in the future.

Hope to see you there!

We have a couple more events in the works that are being planned by a couple of our attendees. One is a tour of the Great Lakes Maritime Academy and training ship , and the other is a tour of nearby Interlochen Center for the Arts.

In town you can golf at one of the 17 courses, ride miles of bike trails, charter a salmon boat, sail on a tall ship, rent kayaks, visit wineries, check out microbreweries, dine in gourmet restaurants, shop till you drop, or visit a lighthouse. With a little travel time you can climb sand dunes, visit a historic fishing village, see the fifth longest suspension bridge in the world, or see an internationally recognized art and music school. With a little drive time you can take a ferry to an island where only bicycles and horses are allowed. Take your own bike, or rent one. Rent a horse drawn carriage and drive it yourself, or hire a driver.

Later this month the park should be able to take reservations for our upcoming rally. We hope to block off some sites for a limited time for our group to reserve from. As soon as they give us the go, I'll make an announcement on both forums and on the Facebook page.

The 2016 ERU has been moved to Holiday Park Campground in Traverse City. The dates have not changed. They've already blocked off sites 200-224 for our use, but won't be taking reservations for 2016 until after the first of next year. As soon as the reservation window opens I'll cross post here and on the other forum. In the meantime, here's a link to the campground's web site:

http://www.holidayparktc.com/

Feel free to ask any questions about the ERU and/or the area and we'll do our best to answer them or point you in the right direction.

Hope to see you there. Let's fill this place up!

OK gang! We have sites 200-224 and sites 159-170 blocked off for us for the roundup, June 16, 17, and 18th. Starting after Jan 5th 2016, you can call them and make your reservations. If you plan to come early or stay late, Dawn at Holiday Park will do her best to make sure you don't have to move, but the earlier you call after the 5th the better.

Linky to park map so you can start planning:

http://www.holidayparktc.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/sitemap.jpg

Be sure to mention that you are with the Rpod group to get a spot in our reserved block and receive 10% off your site.

Hope to see you all there.

Why would they not be? It's not an FR event, it's an event put on by owners, for owners and friends, always has been, always will be. While a "podcentric" event, in previous years the ERU has been attended by everything from T@Bs to 30 foot class C's.. Heck.. we have had people in tents.

Jimmy and Elaine

The ERU is at the Holiday Park Campground.  Their phone # is (231) 943-4410.  Mark (aka Huron Sailor) and his wife have been kind enough to set this up.  Tell them you are with the r-pod group to get your 10% discount.  Lots that are still available are shown 4 posts above this one.

There's so much to do in the area, the only group event we have planned is the winery tour. There are several tour companies, and the ones we've talked to said it would be no big deal to come and pick us up at the campground. We'll probably pick a day, maybe take a show of hands on the first day of the roundup and let the tour company know how many are interested.

Also, I moved you to spot 218 on the map. I'm not sure how I got your last name as I can't find it anywhere now.

We'll talk to them beforehand and see if they will take reservations with credit card info before the roundup. I've never been on a tour before but have heard from friends that it's a good way to go. The host fills you in on the history of the vineyards and can answer all your wine related questions. It also eliminates the need for a designated driver.

Another option is the self guided tour. That's the way I've gone in the past on several occassions. There are maps available many places in town or probably online.

We just had one more party booked in the left row, but not sure which site so they're not on the map. We actually have 6 sites left in our reserved block, not 7.

Mark, was just eyeing up your coney dog with what is probably a Koegel vienna inside?  Never had a Koegel but absolutely like either Hebrew Brand or the 1/4 lb dogs that Gordon Food Service sells.  Both are all beef and no filler, can Koegel's say the same about theirs?  Will have to bring some and let you see for yourself if you haven't had them.

We use Koegel Viennas. Hebrew Brand is good too. Not sure if I've had the GFS dogs. Maybe at a family gathering, I don't think we've ever bought any ourselves. The Viennas are a blend of beef and pork.

They do make a skinless all beef dog but it's not the Vienna. Koegel sells a special coney dog available in only 10# boxes. That's what the real coney joints use. It's very close to the Vienna. Supposedly they're better for grilling and have slightly different spices.

I just got off the phone with Dawn at the campground. She will continue to hold site 206 for us, but sites 167-170 are THE LAST 4 spots open in the campground during our ERU. She's had several calls from non pod campers who want these pull thru sites during our rally, and she's turned them away. She asked me if I thought our group was tapped out. I told her I know of at least one party who's still on the fence but we agreed that they couldn't continue to turn away campers for open spots.

She has agreed to hold sites 167-170 for our exclusive use through this coming weekend. On Monday Feb 15th she will begin booking those sites to non-podders. If you're considering attending you might want to go ahead and book your spot now. We'd sure like to see you there.

Call me paranoid but publishing names, hometowns, and dates on an open forum seems ill advised. That's info I would love if planning a home burglary.

3 more years for me as a golf course superintendent and then retirement at the age of 64.  My wife would rather me retire earlier and I know my body is telling me to back off, getting aches and pains I have never experienced before.  One of my brothers retired at 51 so I guess I have to put in a few more years to balance things out.

Anything "newsworthy" about the ERU Mark and Beth   Been rather quiet the past month?  Hopefully your snow is all gone 'for the meantime'  looks like we are going to get some more this weekend.  Wait and see, been great this past week to have some warmer weather and sunshine.

There's been a few posts on the Facebook page about I-75 construction this summer (surprise!) and a few links to recent news articles about the area. Otherwise pretty quiet.

Our snow is gone down here and the long range forecast doesn't show any through the end of March.
