just wondering what type of tire people have on their tow vehicle. I have a v6 4x4 Tacoma and need new tires, just wondering if I should get p series or lt tires. I have a 2014 RP176.
Thanks

NLPod, for your Tacoma, you might consider the Michelin LTX M/S 2. I've used Michelin tires over more than half a million miles on several vehicles, and I've always been delighted with performance and longevity.

I would think for a 176, either P or LT should do just fine. Most I have seen of either are of a load range E in your size.
On TireRack.com all the OEM tires for the 2009 Tacoma are: LT245/75R16 120/116S E; Which means 3086/2756 lbs carry capacity at max pressure.
On my vehicle, I have Cooper Discoverer AT3 265/60R18 110T Std Load (2337 lbs), and have not had any issues. Some folks here even tow with minivans or other non-SUV (or truck) based tires and do just fine.
What I would more concerned about is having a WDH to distribute some of the load to the front axles/tires if you don't already use one.

Had them on my Taco and loved them, still had tons of life in them when I turned it in, had 70K on them. I liked them enough to put them on my old Expedition too. When the Goodyears on the new eX bite it, LTX's it will be.

Another vote for LTX. I put my second set of 265/60R18 LTX M/S2 on my 4Runner just before I pulled the pod across country and back. $229.25 a tire. Great sneakers!

Our truck needs new tires soon and we also are interested in the Michelins. However, they are not the "recommended" tires for our model, according to the Ford website. Not sure why. We will check with the Ford folks before final choice.

We use Michelin LTX M/S2 on our Ford Expedition and love them. we have used Michelin tires on all of our vehicles in the last 10-12 years and never had a problem. They are not cheap, but I feel that they are worth the extra cost. they don't leak, don't lose belts, don't puncture easily and wear well.

Auto manufacturers "recommend" certain tires for their vehicles. Factors include load carrying capability, ride quality, physical fit, etc. For example Toyota "recommends" P265/70R16 for my Tacoma. However, I can buy LT tires in the exact same size and capabilities or even LT245/75R16s that would work just as well. The problem is tire manufactures use the auto manufacturers listing when fitting your TV. Therefore Michelin and other vendors "recommend" their P-metric tires for my truck, but I could and will replace the OEM P-metric tires with LTs as soon as these wear out. As long as you meet the load rating and don't mind a slightly rougher ride when not towing, LTs are probably a better choice.

I priced Michelins and Bridgestones Saturday, and in September a set of Michelins are going on my 2010 F150. They go on sale in September at my local Costco.
