Hello all!
I am a brand new owner of a rpod 178 (1st time owning a trailer).  Other than an overnight maiden voyage, I took my first trip to the coast of Oregon.  Had a fabulous time with no issues until the morning I was to leave.  Took my dog out to pee, shut the door and it locked on me.  Keys were inside and the spare was in my locked car.  I now know to hide a key.  My question is has this happened to anyone else?  The locksmith said he has no idea what happened.
Thanks!
Gail

Shouldn't have happened the way it is designed.

We have a camper key hidden on the camper and one on our van. You never know when it might come in handy

Thank you.  I have written to Forest River with my concern.

The deadbolt in our brand new 178 failed on our second trip, had to call a locksmith also. We have ordered the electronic lock and will hope for better although I know some have had issues with that also. A helpful Podder has posted a coupon code elsewhere on this forum which saved us $55 on the price of the lock.

Curious...whats it cost these days to get a Lock Smith to open a camper door? I'm sure it depends somewhat on how far they have to travel.

Is it possible to lock the door while its open, (not the deadbolt) and then close it?

Our locksmith in Petaluma, CA was $93 for the call out and something like $21 for each quarter hour.  It took him about 2 minutes to open the door but of course the deadbolt was destroyed in the process.

The locksmith came from Coos Bay to Bullards State Beach.  He charged me $75 and it took him less than 1 min. to open the door with a master key.

It happened a few years ago, but I was locked out of my r-pod as well.

The lock assembly was loose and the deadbolt had jiggled just enough when I closed the door that it latched shut.  Fortunately, the windows were open so I could move the screen out of the way and reach in and grab my keys to unlock the trailer.

Admittedly, I had noticed that the latch/lock was a bit loose during a previous trip, and I had been thinking "I really should tighten that."  After my brief lockout, I did tighten everything and I've never had a problem again.

The lower lock (the dead bolt) won't unlock on my 178. I have the keys. They just don't work. I got the camper used and love it. I just noticed that the reason I have always had a problem and only now, when I got new keys, do I realize it may have been b/c the key I originally received was not the same on both sides. New keys unlock the upper lock easily but not the lower deadbolt lock. Any ideas?

Oh - one more thing . . . the reason I still have the keys outside the camper and in my hands is because I had the camper winterized at the dealer's. He says he locked only the top lock not the deadbolt>!?#?$? I may have locked it inadvertently when I brought the camper back to its permanent storage spot and was getting in and out of it a couple of times.

A locksmith can open it and also give you advice on how to correct. If you don't have the right key, you're not going to open it especially the deadbolt.

The deadbolt and handle locks are different. The handle lock is universal, so just about anybody can open it with their key. The deadbolt is unique.

We replaced ours with an RVLock v4.0 keyless, which can be opened/closed with a key, a combination, or a wireless FOB. The FOB can be disabled with a switch on the indoor portion of the lock assembly.

I use the RVlock v4.0 also. This is the absolute easiest way to do it. No key needed, it takes seconds to lock/unlock. The keyless unit locks the dead bolt, so it's more secure.  I also love that the system can be programmed with up to an 8 digit pass code. I hate 4 number pins

I was locked out once this summer, but I just sent my youngest child through the cargo access and up through the seat.  Works well if the child is small and flexible enough!LOL

That's a trickier proposition with the 179 if you've replaced the mattress with memory foam, since the only cargo access is under the queen bed.

Ok,now I need one of the magic RV locks. I hate that my Jeep doesn’t have an electronic lock as I’ve used the one on my older f350many,many times.
Ordering tonight.

We were camping this summer in our TT and got locked out.

Ran to the store, came back and unlocked the door to bring the groceries in, left the keys on the counter and walked out and shut the door....some how it decided to lock itself on our way out.

Luckily our dealer met us us half way (about an hour drive for each) with a master key and we returned it on the way home.

The dealership said they've seen it happen a couple times.

We now have a spare key hidden and another spare in the TV at all times.....

Is the RV lock easy to install? Exactly which one do I order? We have the 182G,2016 model.

Changed ours out a few weeks ago.  Bought one off Amazon (of course).  Took all of ten minutes.  You need a phillips head screwdriver.

Mike, I haven’t fixed it yet. I’ll either get the RV Lock or hide a key.
