No way!  I spent my entire summers there as a kid - and learned how to swim there too!  25-35 years ago.  My parent's house is about 5 miles away.  From what I've heard they've made a lot of changes since I was last there.  The place was almost sold off to developers a few years ago but I don't remember how they worked it out to keep it open.  Certainly not for lack of income, I just think the land is worth too much now.

Small world stuff, Doug!

I have lots of memories of freezing cold early morning swim lessons and hunting crawdads and salamanders in the pond. I think by the time you were there we had "graduated" to jumping off of and swimming below the little dam at Loch Raven Reservoir and rafting down the Gunpowder after a big rain!

I must pay a visit there soon!

Yup, we did a lot of fishing in that little pond, too.  Did lots of tubing down the Gunpowder, and still kayak it.  If you come around as always my driveway is open with almost full hookups (you have to move the pod or use a really long sewer hose to dump).

Tubing?! We couldn't afford tubes, but Sunny's Surplus in Towson had blow-up mattresses for $2.00! Approve

LOL

If Doug is talking about the same fish I remember in that pond, they were like 2"-3" sunnies! I think I tried stocking an aquarium with them.

fred

Edit: My sister just reminded me. I put them in the same bowl as my goldfish. Experiment failed, but I never stopped trying!

I miss Sunny's.  The original version, not the modern retail version which didn't last that long.

Yeah, those fish would have been good for bait.

Fess up Doug. How many ammo boxes did you buy from Sunny's? Canteens? I spent a lot of my lawn mowing money there. I'm sure we're boring the heck out of anybody else, but sure is fun!

LOL, I still have 2 of those ammo boxes.  Used them to hold lunch and beer on those tubing trips.  I always wanted one of those gas masks they had piled on tables but I never could justify it.  One of those boxes now has ... my ammo.

So did you go to Dulaney?  The timing works out for you to be one of the first in the door.

2 pages with nothing related to the original post, but interesting to you and me.

One brother and I went to Baltimore Lutheran HS (Cromwell Bridge and 695 across street from Spiro Agnew's house), one brother to Poly, one sister to Towson (Towsontown) HS and one to Loch Raven HS. Both brothers and I went off to Va. Tech. Before, after and during Va. Tech I worked at GBMC before sailing off to Florida (literally) for 25 years.

It's been nice being back this way!

Did you ever get one of those trench coats or field jackets at Sunny's? Of course, then there was the movie theater, White Castle Burgers (bag 'O burgers) and the "rich old ladies" at Hutzlers. We'll have to trade stories over some beers and a fire sometime.

Off to Cunningham State Park tomorrow - across PA to Harrisburg, Gettysburg and down. Looks like a nice spot for a day or three.

Fishing. (That's just to see if Leo is paying attention)

I gotcha...........also got my attention with ammo!!

My wife and I actually came through there on our way back from FISHING at Cape Hatteras this past April. Came through Annapolis , up through Baltimore area and up I-83 through PA, up to New York. Then back over to Vermont.

Figured I catch you with a little fishing lure, Leo! Smile

You live in a gorgeous area, Leo. I visited nephew at Dartmouth often. Really pretty drive along 91. Somewhere I got pictures kayaking the Quechee.

It is really nice! We had thought of moving south back when I retired but just couldn't leave the area permanently. Having grown up down on Cape Cod we do find ourselves missing the ocean every now and then.
