is the TV antenna on the 179 a fixed antenna? Looks like it can't be rotated.

Yes, all pods, as delivered, have "omni-directional" antenna, and don't rotate/raise/etc.

Yeah they will jiggle in the wind but are basically fixed. We stayed in the Rocky Mount,NC area last for and picked up around 30 channels.

Thanks for the comments. I was just going thru the papers they gave me, and there is nothing on the radio operation, or anything about the TV operation. Is this the way it is or am I missing that info

Ditto on not much info. Ours works pretty well IF the booster is on.

Mine didn't come with instructions either. My RP178 has coaxial jacks near the TV. One jack is labeled satellite and the other labeled for cable. The TV has always been connected to the cable jack. I assume the antenna is also connected to that same "cable" line and is somehow bypassed when the outside cable connection is made?

It's not bypassed, but you turn the antenna booster off when hooked to cable. The antenna signal is very weak without the booster, so the cable signal basically overpowers it.
