I have a 179 new and ran the air conditioner for a short time, mostly as a test. I raised the thermostat so the heat would kick on and the heater / blower started but the air conditioner continued to run. With both running it was loud. Of course this only happened while I was plugged into AC. I turned everything off, disconected AC and turned on the heat. Worked fine. Any idea why air conditioner AND heater would run at the same time?

I had the same but opposite situation, when I tried to run the heat, the AC would come on also.  I believe the answer is that on the thermostat, you need to make sure the fan setting is set to "auto", then you should be fine.  At least that's what I was told, try it and let us here know if that's the right answer!

That is the correct answer. Fan control to auto.

Lol. I just spent the whole night running both the ac and heat because of this. ... put fan to auto and worked like a charm! I should have looked at this last night. That fan is loud!!! Thanks!

Would be nice if the owners manual actually explained a few things about the unit

I think it is designed to help circulate the heat through the cabin. I have ours set to "Auto" so the AC fan won't run and then I put a small fan at the opening under the bed where the heater is (RP179) to circulate the heat and air. It is a lot quieter. I am currently using an O2 Cool Fan that can run on batteries. It came with an AC adapter for the 9V power for which it is designed. However, it will run on 12V if you have a suitable adapter. It will just run a little faster and be a bit louder. In any case, it is still very much quieter than the AC fan.
