The Wife and I have decided to quit our jobs and travel the country for the next year. The reason this is sort-of a big deal is because we are only 26 and have limited funds to do so. BUT, we said what-the-heck, why not.

We will be posting regularly on Youtube and I will do my best to post those updates and more right here for your viewing pleasure since we are traveling in our wonderful 2010 R-Pod 171 . We just got the first video posted today - the intro.

Check it out here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtudLB7qdsI%20 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtudLB7qdsI

Good luck!

Just a small suggestion...

Don't limit yourselves to a year! You never know where your journey might take you.

I was a little older (28) when I took off on my great adventure with a lot less money. Of course, it was 1981 and it was a sailboat. It's been one life changing adventure after the next ever since.

Oh, and don't forget to call your mother!! Big smile

Have fun!

Good luck in your travels, I wish I had the intestinal fortitude to do something like that and I'm retired!

Just a small suggestion - if you are stopped in an area for several days with a FR dealer, you might want to the the factory recall light bar put on your trailer.

Good Luck and have fun. Also would suggest you get the clearance lights installed on your Pod.

Welcome.  A childhood friend of mine did that with his wife and kids in an RV.  They even made onto the Ricki Lake show because of their travels.  They work remotely for some income and live as green as possible (they use biodiesel in the RV).

You did a great job on the video. With that kind of video editing skill I'm looking forward to seeing some of the places you go. Did you say you plan to be on the trip for a year? What if the Pod hatches kids?

Thanks for all the great comments!

We actually tried to get that recall work done right before we left at a local dealer, but they drug their feet and we never ended up getting it completed. I'm sure that we will be getting it done as soon as we are near a dealer. Will be in Nashville soon, maybe then! Will be looking into installing a solar panel very soon.

As far as traveling for 1 year, that is just our first big goal. At 1 year's time we will re-evaluate and go from there... who knows where we will end up!

Will be posting a new video soon, mainly the very beginnings of our trip. Stay tuned. :)

P.S. - OH, if the POD hatches kids... haha, well then so be it... gotta roll with the punches! We are in for adventure, but let's hope that doesn't happen for a while. ;)

Third video in our series: https://youtu.be/LAPR2UXa_Pc - Day 1 - The Journey Begins

In this video we finally embark on our journey, leaving Kansas City, MO for our first long drive to Frankfort, KY.

SPOILER:
Being a total newb, I try to level the camper with the stabilizers and almost ruin the darn things... Lol

yeah, that is a Bad Thing.  You can also bend the frame.  Use planks under the wheels for side-to-side leveling and the tongue jack front-to-back.

Do you usually just back the trailer onto the planks, or do you jack the trailer up and place them under the wheels?

Posted By: techntrek
Date Posted: 30 May 2015 at 11:14pm
Back or pull forward before you unhitch.  You can even buy levels that are marked to tell you how many inches you need to add and which side.

Our first big destination was Louisville, KY for the Kentucky Derby. My wife had a dream about a "horse on fire" winning the race, so we bet the farm on Firing Line to win. We also had some issues getting the water heater to work... EVENTUALLY we got it figured out. Until then however, we were forced into taking cold showers. Embarrassed

Here is the adventure that took place that weekend:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNzid-dMX7I - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNzid-dMX7I

Thanks for the question Leo. The next video we are posting will be the QnA.

It's been a few good days since I've posted anything. The reason is because I spent the last 5 days in Manchester, TN at Bonnaroo. Hell of a good time. I did see another R-pod as we were leaving. Shout at me If you went!

Anyway, I posted a new video yesterday. This is a tour of our camper... Literally our entire lives have been squeezed into this thing, lol. https://youtu.be/W1o0QIygvzg - Touring the R-Pod

Thank you for the tour, it brings back memories of our 171. Question have you tried or able to get any TV stations using the amplified antenna on your roof? It's not the best but if your close to a big city you may be able to pick up a TV signal. Have enjoyed your videos. Thank you

I'm very familiar with Manchester.  I went to college for 2 years 30 minutes north of there and my best friend lived in Manchester, very close to where Bonaroo is now held.  Didn't exist back then.  How did you like the festival?

Bonnaroo was great. We worked as vendors while we were there and made a little cash. Had a few nights off to experience music as well.

We have picked up a few channels using the antennae here near Nashville, but nothing incredible. 4 channels, 3 of which are shopping networks. I've heard of people getting up to 30 channels in this same park... Is there a way to amplify this thing that I may not know about?

Posted By: David and Danette
Date Posted: 19 Jun 2015 at 4:01pm
If you open up the cabinet above the sink on the right hand side there is a switch with a 12 volt outlet next to it. Its a little button when you push it in a little green light will shine. Being close to Nashville you should get several stations. In Tullahoma we would get about seven stations out of Huntsville Alabama which is about I guess 60 miles away, that was with our 171 when we owned it.

Spent many weekends prowling around Tullahoma, too.  Locals loved to cruise between the Sonic and a shopping center on the main strip.

Well thank you guys so much for telling me about the booster. Went from 4 channels to 21.

VIDEO UPDATE:
While we were in Frankfort we made our first Cross-species friend, "CAT". I'll be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of cats, partially because I'm slightly allergic but mainly because dogs are way cooler. However, this cat was cool as ****. He was a feral cat who lived primarily off of mice... He was just kind of the guard of the farm.

Here's a little video compilation of our furry buddy.

Well, it's certainly been a good minute since I've posted a video. The delay had a little to do with editing troubles and a little to do with visiting family.

But either way, here is our final update from Frankfort, KY. 1 Month of travel complete.

With any luck I'll be posting several videos this week. Thanks for watching everyone!

VIDEO UPDATE:
I know what you're saying: "Damn Wes, it's about time!" Yeah, yeah, I know... On the road it has been really hard to get the time to edit these puppies together, let alone find any kind of decent internet connection in order to upload them. All in all, to get one video on the internet, it's a good 5 hour process.

Anyway, instead of me complaining... Here is a video of how we set up the camper. Honestly this was inspired from our Camper tour video, which is doing better than any other video we have on the web.

Now, most of you are professionals at this process I'm sure... so don't beat me up to hard. Feel free to leave me comments about how we did though. LOL, Thanks all

According to a post in a Jeep Cherokee forum...

Last I talked to them, they had sold the trailer, and gone back to reality. Good people, they had some stories, and we had a good time whilst they were here...

Too bad. Must really suck going back to reality. They're not going to take me!! Censored
