Our rpod 179 came with Westlake CR 857 tires. Kind of all an terrain tread. I'm wondering if these are quality tires or just the cheapest tire they could put on that look cool. Were heading to Alaska this summer and I'm thinking of changing them out. Lots of rough and gravel roads and some flat tires are a given. Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I would def replace the tires, especially where you are headed. Check out this article:

Thanks bobditch. Thinking I should change them anyway. I can't imagine FR putting a quality tire in the first place.

All camper tires are about the same, you'll read horror stories on every brand, and stories filled with miracles and rainbows.  The ones that came on my pod had over 15,000 miles on them when it was sold.  Since camper tires should be replaced after 6 years I would have replaced them due to age long before the tread was gone.  I would use the tires you have - but take several spares already mounted on steel rims because I've read many stories of flat camper and TV tires in the big AK.

thanks techntrek. There's some truth there as well. Gonna have 2 mounted spares for sure. Last time there without trailer i found lots of roads that were paved for the first 2 miles or so then deteriorated from there. Extra spare tire mounted near tongue should be ok? Have 2 propane tanks and 2 6 volt batteries there already.
