Has anyone used the RV specific GPS navigation units such as the Garmin RV760LMT or the Rand McNally RVND 7730? Is it worth the approximate $200 additional cost over a more standard Garmin 2597 (for example)? If you have one of these units, how have they worked, do you like them?

Are bridges a concern with an approximate 10' overall height? The trip planning seems like a nice feature, but not sure it is worth the additional price.

Thank you!

If I had a Prevost.. maybe. The pod has no special requirements. It under 8 feet wide and 10 feet tall.

There aren't many bridges the pod won't go under. A 10 foot tunnel or bridge would be something left over from the horse & buggy days and would probably have dirt tracks under it rather than pavement.

That said, there are places where trailers aren't allowed.  The Road to the Sun in Glacier National Park for instance.  And there is a tunnel in Zion NP that has some sort of restrictions I think.

We were in Zion and there is definitely a tunnel that is a concern for travel trailers.  If you are towing, you must stop at the entry ranger station and they physically measure your width and height.  If you are above a certain size(can't remember the limits)  you have to pay to have this tunnel temporarily closed to two way traffic and have an official escort to lead through the tunnel.  The problem is the roof is arched so the corners aren't high enough. Our 173 model was definitely below the limit, so we had no problems.  However it was a narrow two lane tunnel and it seemed to be not very tall.  I paid very close attention and was very careful.  The white lines were very tight.

Not here, we use a regular Garmin nuvi for our travels and it works fine for us.

Vann, interesting that they didn't require the special permit for your pod, they said we needed to with our 171 even though the body is clearly below the limit.  No escort though, one of our 2 times through we were at the front of the line and led the parade.  Neat, except for the extra fee.
