I installed a 12" round window in my 178 trailer today! The project went great and I love being able to look out the trailer door before opening it!!!!

Looks great! How long did it take you? Was it overly challenging?

Prep time took a while, also i took some time to look at the cut before I started! the cuttung went great (just foam and overlay). I cant belive how different it looks inside. I really enjoy being able to look out while standing inside the trailer.

Of all our mods, I think it's my favorite. Looks like you did a good job. :)

Hey Dave!
That window looks awesome. We just picked up our brand new 179 on Friday, and I'm already pushing my husband to put a window in the door (it's my #1 complaint with the trailer)...I was just wondering, where did you purchase your window from?

Hey Michelle, I ordered from Amazon. just look for 12" rv window! Looks like were almost neighbors...We just spent the past weekend at the 49ers and had a great time wine tasting. Hope you enjoy your R Pod.

We just placed the order for the window off Amazon, thanks for the tip, Dave! I showed my husband the pictures of your new window and told him it better look that good when he installs ours, or else Big smile When you cut the hole for the window, did you make the cut from the back side of the door? I assume you just used a jigsaw, right?

I debated removing the door from the trailer, but removing 18+ screws was too much! I made the cut from the outside (remember to open the door so that you don't cut the screen door). Should only take a few minutes to cut the door. It took a lot longer to post the photos :) good luck, let me know if you have any questions....

Looks good! I've got a roto-zip that would make quick work of that. Haven't decided on the portal type or the rectangular type yet.

I understand about looking at different style windows. I like the look of the round window for the door, the shape goes with the trailer? Send photos when you install your window. Also, roto-zip would have no isssue with the cut. it was like cutting a styrofoam ice chest :-)

Finally got around to doing our first podmod and installed the round window in the door of our 179 and it looks great! Since I'm only 5'1.5", we had to install it slightly lower on the door so I can see out. I'm so happy with it, it's going to let in some nice light.

We did find that when we were installing the silver flange on the interior side of the door, it wasn't symmetrical with the exterior window so it didn't fit flush (we kind of had to overlap it towards the top), but it's unnoticeable from the outside, and not really noticeable from the inside unless you're looking closely. It doesn't look like it will impact the window being weatherproof or anything, so it's not a big deal to us, but just something we would want other people to be aware of.

Nice job to both of you. I have always wanted one but someone always said no.   Goose

Yes, nice.  I've always liked the porthole-in-the-door look.

We have the porthole window too but have yet to put it in! Tongue

We think we might go for the rectangular one as we don't have any windows on that side of our 152 and would like some additional light and airflow.  I'm thinking of installing the porthole at dog height so Chai can look out but G says no.

As for the undesired visibility issue, we put up a piece of fabric (an old sarong) as a curtain whenever someone is in the loo or is changing in the pod so there is no accidental flashing of unsuspecting fellow campers.
