We have a 2015 179.  Spring has us going....Used our RDome for first time last week...Two questions.  When we slid the bead of the tent into the channel that holds the tent to the Rpod we had lots of plastic being cut off the bead by the aluminum channel. Anyone else see this??  I filed the channel back a little and we will see how that worked.  Second...my dome is about 14 to 16 inches longer that the the channel...I have that much of the bead sticking out on each side of channel...seems very strange and hard to keep out drips.....Anyone else have this problem...or is there a conversation someone could lead me to.....thanks
Keith

Have 171 but not used dome yet.  Called rpod at 574 642 3119 parts to ask if I would have same problem.  Found out the domes are custom made for each model except there is currently not one made to fit the 179

Covers are custom made for each model, R-Domes are all the same 13' Dometic Cabana these days.  Although there is a new one coming out for the 179's and the other larger Pods.

I called FR today. They knew they sold me. Dome that would not "fit" the 179. Told me new dome for 179 out end of month but that they would not exchange. So they lnew I bought a boogus product. Really pissed me off. Called dealer he is trying. Love the pod but now I have NO faith in FR.

You have to take a pair of pliers and bend the pointed ends outward of the rail. You can also file them down. They are very sharp edged and will shear off the plastic tube of the rdome.
Same thing happened to us. I just made a mod based on what others on the forum had done.

This is wrong. Domes have NEVER been custom made to fit a particular model. The dome is not a FR product. It is by Dometic. They are generic in fit.

The profile of the 179 is different enough from the rest of the pods that they don't fit "as well" on them. We have LOTS of 179 owners who have no problem with their dome or it's fit. FR is working on something to fit a bit better on the 179.

They sold you the currently available dome that fits the 179. Some owners have been unhappy with the fit on the 179, because the rear profile is different than the other pods. FR is working on a solution, I assume a different vendor or design, but it may be as simple as just a longer keder tape. Until that is finalized, I am sure they will continue to sell the very same dome they have been. MOST 179 owners who dome, are happy with it as is.

There are at least 2 179's with domes up in this video..

And lots of other pods with their domes up, so you can compare the fit..

Yes, the dome for my '14 179 does NOT fit properly.  The track is short by about 10-12 inches on each side, and I guess because I have the HR edition with risers, the bottom of the dome doesn't come close to reaching the ground at the Pod side like it should.  I would really like anybody whose dome fits their 179 to respond.  Also, I replaced all of the screws in the track to rounded head screws and fitting the dome in the track is now quite easy.

Just got our new dome specific to the 179. 1st attempt stopped by many flaws inside the track. Using a file to smooth out all metal imperfections. Will try again tomorrow

I'm having the same problem returning the r-dome. Bought a new 2014 179 at the end of last season. Took it out of storage a couple weeks ago. Haven't camped yet and haven't used the r-dome. After reading the forum posts, I thought I would try to return the r-dome and get the one recently designed to fit the 179. My dealer flat out told me it wasn't possible. Didn't seem to care at all. Frustrating!

Mac, I emailed FR directly and was told to sell mine and that they would do nothing. I am so irritated that they knew they would not be more consumer friendly. It's not like we are claiming something false. They are aware that it isn't the correct fit. And if I hear one more time that "some of the 179 owners are happy with the way it fits" I will scream!
I feel sure anyone who spent their hard earned money on this extra item would be disappointed to know that the company came out with one that fits better shortly after their purchase.

The "new" Rdomes, for the 179 are out now.

Some people have posted on here that many owners of the 179 have the old style of the Rdome, and have no problem with it.  I suspect that in many if not all of those cases, they do not have the "Hood River Edition" of the 179, which has the axle risers.  That seems to be the issue, that with the risers, the Rdome does not reach the ground.

For those that keep track of these things, the Forest River Part number for the 179 Rdome is 747RGC13.202

I picked mine up a couple of days ago.  I haven't had a chance to set it up yet, will do so tomorrow.  I'd like to post some pics on here, but I'm not sure how to do so, can someone help me with that?

I hear you lilypad. Makes me wonder if there aren't some FR employees on here. I did get the new 179 specific rdome up today. Took awhile but its up. Did quite a bit of filing on the track yesterday, tightened a bunch of the screws and with some silicone spray got it to slide thru. The right edge needs to drop straight down from the slide, just about mid window. Folded the suction cup grommets to the inside to get a better fit. Wrapped the left side around the rear of the trailer and attached suction cups to the outside there. probably should replace the suction cups with some sort of snaps. They are pretty weak. Everything feels loose but once you put stakes in and the ties off the front corners staked it firms up pretty good. Thinking some velcro tape in areas where dome meets the trailer to stop the many mosquito gaps. The skirt is about 3 ft too long and needs to be cut to drape around the axel. Another mosquito hole thats gonna need to be fixed somehow. The skirt is the weak link, pretty flimsy. I'm gonna spray with campmor water repellent tomorrow, let it dry and see if I can get back in the bag. The directions are fairly useless. A few videos on you tube that will get you started, but like most computer instructions they leave out the tricky stuff. Hope this helps.  If you want pictures just email me, I too can't post on here.

Hey guys, I appreciate the responses. Unfortunately I have nothing new to add. Just been dwelling on the situation and it hasn't helped my disposition at all! Have to let it go and move on. I think I'm just going to keep the "ill-fitting" dome for now and maybe try and sell it later and get the right one down the road.
CFWARREN: Thanks for posting the part number for the 179 dome. Did you buy it from FR or a dealer. If you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for it?
lillypad: Don't know what to say, but I'm just as upset as you are!

bearclaw: Sounds like even the new one has some issues. I would like to see some pictures if you don't mind, but being new to the forum, I haven't shared e-mail addresses with anyone yet and I'm not sure how to go about that.
                             Thanks again everyone

The R-dome stopped fitting larger Pods with risers long before the 179 even came out.  I sympathize with anyone upset by this but it's honestly just the way it's been.

If you have a 179 and the old dome it will fit the same as it's fit my 181g for 5 years now.  It will be short at the Pod side, won't touch the ground, and can't be staked properly.

It doesn't ruin what the R-Dome is or can do, just makes it fit not as perfectly as others.

We were lucky and our dealer got FR to exchange our rdome that came with our new 179 for the correct one that just came out last month. The one that came with our Rpod was still in the box so I'm sure that helped.

My wife and I still need to get an outdoor rug for the Rdome. Can you tell me what the best size would be for the rdome?

I haven't had my dome up yet, but I'm thinking about 9x12. the dome is supposed to extend 8' out. I'm thinking about cutting the rug out by the tire and the taking the extra foot to extend under the camper. That way it would be all carpet under the doorway too. I think the dome is 13' wide, so 12' foot seems perfect to me. I'm waiting for my new dome, my dealer is trying to get an exchange for me, because I bought the original one last year before they came out with the new one. so i'm not sure about the rug size, but that's what I'm thinking

I just checked the box in my new 179 and I have the old Rdome part number with a date of 10/2014 on the box.called Gillette Interstate RV in Michigan and ask them to get it exchanged for me. They told me FR refuses to do an exchange because there is only a little difference in the two Rdomes. I no that Gillette could get FR to exchange if they wanted to, but they don't care to help now that they have there money. Does anyone have a number to the Rpod rep at FR

Dealer called to say they had my new Rdome. Went and picked it up today. Forest River told me I could buy it from them if I wanted the new Rdome. They don't care about customer service. I got the general manager of the dealership to exchange it for me. And only after many phone calls complaining. I have owned several jayco trailers over the years, and I must say they care more about customer satisfaction than forest River does. They must not read the comments from Rpod owners on here, because they do nothing to correct the problems we the customer tell them about. I no I would never buy any RV made by forest River again. I should have stayed with Jayco

Curious, has anyone dealt with Jeff couches with this problem. We took delivery of ours in April and got the wrong rdome.  It's a 2015 model with a 2014 rdome that keeps coming out of the channel

I don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a question about the fit of the R-dome after installing the R-pod 4 inch riser kit? Does the R-dome fit ok? How does the added height affect the fit and symmetry of the dome?

We put our R-Dome up for the first time this week on our 2015 178. The fit was a bit funky, the suction cups are useless and the instructions were for attaching it to a pop-up trailer with screw-in grommets, but even with all of this.....we love it! I didn't like how it sloped down from the roof since the Pod has risers so I put the front legs on risers, much better. The screen skirt is a joke.

gave up on the suction cups, looking for those clips, used a rock to hold it tight....

As for hte skirt, had to cut it a couple times, but it can't really hold anything in or our that wants out or in...  There is a company in Colorado that makes skirts for the r-pod, gave an estimate of $1500 for the 171 skirt.  passed.
