Pocket-hole screws, with a coarse thread, have a "washer" built into their head and are another good choice. Use a short screw so you don't poke a hole all the way through the wall to the outside (experience speaking  ).My r-pod inside dimension was 74" and the shelf is 72". I put oak extensions on the shelf, held in place by screws in threaded inserts. I used the brackets meant for the shelf, which have lower lips that can arrest fore-and-aft movement of the shelf. The fit was tight enough that I had to ensure the shelf was removable to be able to screw in the brackets. after screwing in the brackets, I lowered the shelf into place and used tie wraps to hold the shelf to the brackets. Voila! a removable shelf held firmly in place with little to show how it is mounted. |

Here are a couple of picture, sorry for the inept camera work. 
In this pic, you can see the shape of the brackets and how the tie wraps hold the shelf in place. We didn't want to mess with the valance. 
In this pic, you can see the top of the shelf. The threaded inserts let me plane down the thickness of the oak end pieces until I had the fit I wanted. I've been too lazy to stain the oak to match the shelf. I can't find the stock number fort the brackets on the Lowes web site, but I'll be there later today and post it when identified. The shelf is placed forward to accommodate the plastic bins we chose. Snap-top, clear and lightweight bins work best for us. When placed on the shelf, they just miss the ceiling at the back and rest nicely between the lips of the shelf. Best, Jim |

Sorry for the delay in providing the bracket info. They are model WSVSWB, sku 60506 at Lowes Hardware. I can't get a search to show these on lowes.com, but they're in the store where I live. hope this helps! |
