Subject: undercarriage service?
Date Posted: 25 Feb 2015 at 9:53am
We took our pod in to have the seals checked and were asked if we wanted the undercarriage service done, as well. They said they advise people who buy trailers from them to have it done after the first year, then every 8000-10,000 miles.  We have about 2000 miles on ours after about 3 years and are wondering if anyone has any advice about this servicing. We are inclined to wait for the 8000 miles, but don't want to miss doing something that is needed.
Thanks for any advice!Confused

In 6 years dealing with Rpods I have never heard of undercarriage service.

I'd say check the brakes, repack the wheel bearings which includes replacement of the hub seals and that's all. Goose

The only thing I can think of is the inspection of the frame and wires and tanks along with re-torque of everything. Risers, Axle, and Tank Mounting Bolts ect...

Probably no more than .5 labor I would hope.

In the FR Travel Trailer Owners Manual, Section 7 Page 42, Axles "torque mounting bolts" Every six months is listed in the recommended maintenance matrix.

Maybe check for leaks and road damage...

It also lists "follow chassis lubrication & maintenance procedures" which, of course the POD has none.

ADD: Lubrication of the Stabilizer Jacks?

Could be inspection of the fabric to protect floor from water damage to make sure it is not tore or coming detached exposing wood.

Hmm, no shackles or springs on the POD. The rest of the service list is what I would expect to have done during a regular bearing service.

Maybe the dealer refers to the standard bearing service as "under carriage" service?

Well, I can't say much more because I do my own. $300.00 sounds about right for California? Anyone?

Thank you for all your input! We decided to just have the wheel bearings repacked at this point, since it doesn't have all that many miles on it yet. Can't wait to get out again!
