During my walk through at the Dealership the tech explained how to operate the slide. He said hold the button for a couple of seconds after the slide if fully extended and do the same when retracting. OK, no problem. But the one thing that still bugs me today is hearing the ratcheting (pop, pop, pop) when the slide reaches its fully closed or the fully open position. He said this is normal. The reason it bothers me is because some of the information I have read for my slide suggests to hold the button until the motors shut off. Mine don't shut off. I just get the ratcheting...pop, pop, pop, then I let off. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong manual. I'm using the Lippert Components In-Wall Slide Out Owners Manual. Is that the right one for a 178 kitchen slide? Question, those with slides, especially 178 kitchen slides, does your slide do the pop, pop, pop when it reaches fully open and full closed, or do the motors just shut off? Thanks, I really appreciate you'all taking time to respond.

As a new owner of a 178 (Jan 15) I was told the same thing. Yes my slide makes the same sound. I'm getting better at judging the distance to keep the popping to a minimum.

When I did the walkthrough on my 2015 179, I asked the dealer about when to let go of the slide button. He said "that's they way it used to work, but now it turns off automatically." I hold the button until the motor stops, and then let go of the button.

Hogone, it is normal. The lippert slide manual That I have suggests that the motors should shut off, automatically. Apparently, I don't have the correct manual for my slide.

Does anybody know what slide we have on the 177 and 178? Is it the Schwintek "in-wall" slideout system by Lippert?

No schwintek is the bigger slides in the 179. Other Pods have another Lippert Slide system in them. I don't have the model numbers or name of the regular one.

I have a question concerning the operation of the slide. Is it possible to extend/retract using the wrench for the corner stabilizers? were is the location on the slide to move with wrench?

Our 2015 R178 does the clicking thing. The motor does not shut off. The clicking is not an issue as it is a slip clutch making the sound and not the gears.

Oh, that's good to know. Thanks! Next step is to identify the slide model so I can locate the user and/or correct service manual, if there is one. Why? I like to know how things work, before I need to know how they work.

On all Pods besides the 179 you remove the bottom panel of your slideout, 4 screws to pull it off and you'll find the motor with the wrench connection there.

Good question and yes, I believe the answer is yes, however, I must say that I have not personally confirmed this.
Can somebody out there confirm this?
P.S. I was stationed at Travis AFB years and spent a lot of time in Fairfield, charming town as I recall.

Thanks Cliff, I'll have to look at the bottom of the slide and check out the trim removal mode to see if it works. Also, we enjoy living here close to the city as well as the mountains for the weekends. We just need some rain to fill the lakes!

Understood, we are doing better this year, but still have a lake, Medina Lake, that has just disappeared.

Still trying to identify what slide I have...sources indicate that it is an "Above Floor Slide-out System" type slide. Can anyone confirm this?

Well, my current research indicates the answer is false.
If it is true that the kitchen slide POD models are in fact equipped with the "over the floor" type slide (179s have the schwintech slide), the correct manual suggests the overide function requires a 5/8" wrench and I'm pretty sure the stabilizers are 3/4".

We have a 2014 178, slide makes the traditional clicks, just release the button early now. No problems yet! I can't remember the wrench size, however, when I removed the inside panel and checked my slide mechanism out the first time to practice opening and closing it manually, I had to cut some of the framing member away on the right side (part that holds the panel with screws) so that I could get the wrench on straight and square. So, you may want to check that out ahead of time so that you don't have to butcher it "on the road". Works great now - just in case

We commonly have owners grab their stabilizer wrench and use that to to pull in or push out their slide if it is malfunctioning.

It's plausible that a 3/4" speed handle could be used to turn a 5/8" size head that has little resistance. Interesting to note is the strong warnings to disconnect power first b/c of the potential to back-feed and cause "serious damage"
Two weeks till I de-winterize. Thanks Travis...more later on this one for sure.

Travis! You're right! The dang manual says 5/8th of an inch, but it is in fact 3/4" or 19mm depending on how you roll. Goes to show, you can't believe everything you read. ... a thousand pardons Sir.
