I have the Lippert Axle and it calls for grease seal Part # 122087 and Lippert direct wants  $11.00+ to ship a 2.00+ Part. (They don't use USPS)

Does any body have a better source? Can you find them locally?

Most auto part stores have replacement seals as well as RV repair shops

Are the part numbers the same in the auto parts stores...I don't want to "eye ball" this one.

That grease seal is a double lip 1.69 inside diameter and 5.565 Outside diameter grease seal. As long as the replacement met those specs you should be good.

EDIT: This Description from LIPPERT does not match yourshttp://store.lci1.com/seal-1-666-x-2-565-x-5-2800-3500-dl-172-10 - Lippert Parts

OK Thanks. Sure would like to upgrade that "should" to "will"

I'm looking for the absolute correct part. If the seals leak, grease contaminates the brakes.

Does anyone here on the forum service and repack their POD wheel bearings?

Amazon has them, but...the description doesn't say anything about double lip.  Is this the correct seal?

Does anybody know who manufactures the seals? Is it AP?

Does anybody know for sure...are the AP seals used by Lippert?  http://www.approducts.net/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=47_48_58&zenid=3e775be893a80c259d9a3c090f236fb2 - AP Products

Last time I needed a seal, I took mine off & went to the local trailer dealer, the one that does farm trailers.  They had them, cheap.  They can do a cross ref by looking at your part #.

JStrube is right on, look on the Lippert web site for a trailer dealer in your area and they should have all the parts that you need.   Goose

Sure, I can bounce around town stopping and asking "do you have one of these" while the POD sits in pieces, but I was hoping someone on the forum has already sourced it. If not, no problem...I will. Thanks.

Trailer axle seals are standard sizes.  I just go down to http://www.princessauto.com/en/ - Princess Auto  (or occasionally http://www.canadiantire.ca/ - Canadian Tire ) and pick up a set of 3500lb axle seals, just like I've gone there for axle seals for every other trailer (camper or utility) that I've owned over the past 30 years.

Thanks for the input Outbound. I called a couple of local auto parts stores and basically around these parts they want a year, make, model, engine size, and transmission type, without it they are lost.

My understanding is that grease seal size is determined by bearing type and that not ALL 3,500 lb hub seals are the same.

I think I may have found a good source here:  http://www.etrailer.com/Seals-for-Trailer-Bearings/TruRyde/RG06-050.html - Grease Seals - Double Lip - 10-19 (pair) TruRyde Seals for Trailer Bearings RG06-050  UPDATE: This pair are for Dexter axles which have a slightly different ID than Lippert.  1.719 vs 1.690, respectively.

I'll verify this tomorrow. This is the first time I will be servicing the POD bearings so I'm trying to establish a good source so I can get them whenever I want them without trouble or wasting time. If I had a good source like Princess Auto, I'd be set.

Thanks again...

I'd still try the closest local trailer dealer, the one that I used in Kansas City had seals and parts for a all axle types. San Antonio is large enough to more than likely have one dealer with several shops around town, that's were I would check first. In Kansas City it is Croft Trailer Supply with 5 locations around town.    Goose

I'm sure I could find them somewhere in the city, but I kinda like the idea of the correct part showing up in my mailbox. Big smile

Turns out you can get the right part at a good price delivered to your door by Lippert parts direct.

http://store.lci1.com/seal-1-666-x-2-565-x-5-2800-3500-dl-172-10 - Lippert Parts Direct Grease Seal

I ordered extras and some other spare parts so all things considered, it's a wash because shipping was the same after I added to the order.

Are your seals leaking or are you doing seal replacement as preventitive maintenance?

Gearing up for the first service. I'm planning to document this in detail and share it here with pics, references, tool and part sources.

I did mine a few years ago, got my parts from etrailer.  Was a messy job but one I'm glad to have tucked under my belt now and know how to do and service them.  The videos on etrailer are spot on for the process and what to do if you need any pointers Podster.

OK, thanks Travis. I'm taking the procedure straight out of the Lippert Master Towable Manual and condensing it for reference here. Maybe something we can include in the POD Instruction Manual, but I'll leave that up to Doug. We'll see how it looks when finished. I'll be pulling the POD out of storage 1 March to do the service...more later.

Yup thats the procedures that the etrailer videos follow.

Good luck with it, it's really not hard at all, more messy than anything, I tried to video tape it the year I did it and after the first few minutes I saw I could no longer touch my camera.  LOL

LOL

okay  little confused here everybody is saying the OD is 5.565 but the links to the part sources are showing 2.565 OD is this a typo? which is right size  i guessing the 2.565 OD is the good number 5.565 OD would be a pretty big seal.

Right on. My vote is for TWO and NINE SIXTEENTHS outside diameter. FIVE would be wider than your hand.

NINE SIXTEENTHS might be a bit misleading as well (as that comes to .5625, not .565.), but I wanted to get numerals out of the text.

Suffice it to say, the space is less than three inches, and not over five inches.

Seals, bearings , etc can be purchased locally, I've had excellent luck with NAPA, even our local O'Reilly's has access to them. Best you know the number of the component you are looking for. I like locally because if there is an issue I can take it back quickly.

We recently purchased a Rpod 180 and drove it back from Nevada.  Stayed the first night in it in Death Valley.  All the appliances operated perfectly except the right brake did not operate.  When we got back home in Oregon I removed the brake drum and found the shoes and brake magnet coated with a thick layer of grease.  The local NAPA had the same part number grease seals ($2.50) and also purchased a set of wheel bearings.  NAPA had a kit with bearings, seals (these were aftermarket) and a real cap. As soon as the rain slow will check the other side and repack the wheel bearings.  I'm an Amsoil fan so I have plenty of grease.
