crazy question!!!! has anyone ever turned on there heater on while traveling (say maybe 30 minutes prior to arrival to stopping) so the pod is toasty warm when you get there? it may not even work, or may be totally unsafe, or may be a totally crazy thing to do!!!! never have and probably never will; just curious hogone------------- Jon & Pam 2013 RP177 2023 F150 2017 HD Streetglide CHEESEHEAD |

No never done it and I don't know if it will work. I would worry about a draft blowing out the flame. But if it did the saftey should shut down the gas so you did not get a gas leak. I don't know enough about the construction of the furnace.

I've done it - occasionally on purpose (its cold/wet out and I want a warm trailer when stopping for lunch), usually by accident (forget to turn it off when travelling from one campground to another). I've got a programmable thermometer in the trailer, so I tend to just turn on the furnace at the start of a trip and then forget about it. I've never had any problems. The furnace is DSI, so if the flame doesn't light, it'll shut down the gas. I also tend to leave the water heater on as well. But, don't forget: before pulling up to a gas pump, always shut down your propane appliances (fridge, water heater, furnace). And, ferries and some tunnels as well prohibit propane usage. ------------- Craig :: 2009 RP171 towed by a 2017 F150 |
