Nothing scheduled yet, this is just a space for comments and maybe future planning on the subject.

Item #1. This rally, if it happens, is open to ALL campers.

Beginning with forming the time frame, Luv2Q has suggested avoiding the summer months and I agree. Winter, Spring, and Fall is a perfect time for outdoor activities in Texas. We also go way North for our summer trip.

Please feel free to share your thoughts...after we settle on a time-frame we can move on to location.

Awesome news! I will be glad to help organize in any way I can. Although, my time may have some restrictions as my daughter just got engaged 3 days ago and we will be planning a wedding in 2015 :)

I would concur with a non summer event! Before May or after September is my vote. I have never been, but have gotten a glowing first hand review of the state park in Tyler. Inks lake is another winner in my book.

Great job on taking the initiative to set this up Podders!  Once you get something more firmly set in place let me know, I will add it to the Map and xpost it to the other online groups if you're interested.  There are a lot of Texas and surrounding Podders on the FB group who I am certain would be interested in a Rally out there ways!

Sounds good and I agree Spring and fall are better months and easier for us to get vacation time off from work as well. I'll try to help if I can.

Well, why don't we start by everybody suggesting some places they like (or would like to experience). Some that have already been mentioned here & there:
  • Lake Tawakoni
  • Inks Lake
  • Tyler State Park
  • Port Aransas (Mustang Island)
  • South Padre Island (long, long drive for most folks)
  • Somewhere in the Hill Country (Bandera? Wimberly? Fredericksburg? Other?)
I'll volunteer to keep an updated list so we don't have to hunt through previous posts.  I'm guessing that, after a while, we'll all get tired of suggesting and want to make a decision.  Or maybe someone will just say "Hey, y'all, we'll be at xyz the weekend of mm/dd/yy.  Come on down!".

It could be that making it less formal & organized might be more fun.  The list of suggestions will still be useful, though; just about everyone knows of cool places that others may not.  MissyBuck & Podster have already given us some good ideas.  Bet others have some equally good ones.

Your thoughts, ideas?  Sure would be fun getting to meet y'all.

My 2¢...What I like about Tyler SP is that is appears (I've never been there) to have it all AND we may get some of our Podder friends N & S & E (maybe even some out W)  to join us because it's not to far for them to go! Please, anyone who has been to Tyler State Park tell us what it's like!

It looks like there is a nice big lake for swimmers, boaters, and paddlers. It's big and has several pull through spots with full hookups! Fishing opportunities, no licence required, if you fish from the dock or the bank. Good facilities! Good hiking and biking! If we time it right, it looks like the fall colors could be really nice.

There are cabins, screened shelters, tent camping and of course, plenty of POD Spots!
Boat Rentals, Park Store, and Playgrounds!

I think the key here to a successful rally is getting a location and time frame set as early as possible so folks can get there reservation. The Texas State Park System is first come first served...no saves that I am aware of.

All the reservation information is right here:  http://tpwd.texas.gov/business/park_reservations/ - TPWD: State Park Reservations

11 months (333 days) in advance so we could be booking now for October. All we need to do is choose a time and go for it!
Oct 21-24 ( Wednesday - Saturday Leaving Sunday ) ? 4 nights? Or??? Is that enough or do you want to stay the whole darn week there?

We should be booking now if possible (weekends get booked really really fast in these parks), if you have to cancel it will only cost you 5 bucks!

hogone, furpod, techntrek, kymosses, bueller, bueller, bueller, y'all coming out to Texas?Thumbs Up

Tyler is a good choice in my book. You can reserve "a spot" at any state park for a particular date if one is a available. You are correct, from that point on its FCFS. We usually get to the park as early as possible and snag a good spot. If it is occupied at the moment, we just hang out until the current occupants leave. Techincally campers have the spot until 2pm, but most of the time they leave earlier than that.

If we can agree on a date soon, we can plan our other trips accordingly. Looking forward to meeting some Podders!

Just do Wed-Sun, Oct 21-24th as suggested above. If someone want's to come earlier in the week or stay later than Sun and hang out  it's their option to do so. It's all about having fun !
IMHO ... :)

Wed-Sun, Oct 21-24th sounds fine to us.  As mentioned, coming earlier and/or leaving later are always options but 10/21-10/24 sounds like a good time frame to build on.  Count us in.

And MissyBuck, congratulations on your pretty daughter's engagement.  Very nice pic of her & her beau on FB.  An exciting time for Moms & Dads as well as daughters!  Hope our little Podding adventure won't interfere.

Be sure and check with your park, many places will allow a special rate, and sometimes will give a window to Rallies where they will block off certain areas of sites so that you can all be together.

Glad to see this coming together so quickly, great job Podders!

Probably more so for private parks...however, that's OK because we can have a scheduled meet and greet, then from there some fishing, boating, hiking, biking, wine sippin, and maybe even a dart and/or a washer throwing tournament. Big smile Heck we might even do some sittin round the camp fire and a strummin and a pickin. Eatin beans and a Embarrassed, well you know...John? you brining your guitar?

I believe the only way to hold anything at all in a Texas State Park is to lay down the cash. Besides, it complicates things. I like the idea of keeping it simple, if you want to camp, just make a reservation and show up!Smile

I am hoping that we will get some campers in tents, and want to stay in cabins or screened shelters as well...think Woodstock! Wink

Some folks that have always wanted to make the trek to the Canton Trade Days (the "Disney World" of Trade Days)...   http://www.firstmondaycanton.com/ - First Monday Canton   ,a big big deal in this area, may want to extend their stay to include Halloween weekend as well. BOO!Star

We would most likely be IN. We haven't been to Tyler State Park yet but it's a beautiful area and as we probably all know, Texas state parks are great. If that's being seriously considered we're close enough that we could take a drive and check it out and take some photos.

Very serious, we have pretty much settled on it...just trying to get a feel for the number of campers so we can decide to either bum rush area 2 with reservations and fill it up to keep it cozy or use area 3 with plenty of elbow room.  Big smile Area 2 and 3 book separately, $26 or $24, respectively. Both have full hooks ups! Thumbs Up... Sure hope you can make it, this is going to be fun!

Thoughts, anyone?

OK, that settles it! I just booked an area 2 Lakeview spot (Premo!) and I'm going in a day early! Oh man, I can't wait for this.Thumbs Up

Let's do this folks, book NOW  http://tpwd.texas.gov/business/park_reservations/ - TPWD: State Park Reservations    so you don't miss out on the First Annual BIG TEXAS RPOD RALLY! Arriving-Oct 21(Wed), departing-Oct 25(Sun). The weekends get booked fast in these parks so don't put it off, even if you are speculating. You can always cancel and it will only cost you $5 bucks! So go for it!

Policy on Cancellations, Transfers, and Extensions

  • Cabins, Motel Rooms, Shelters and Camp Sites -
    • If more than 3 days from day of arrival - refund will be given minus a $5 administrative fee per site plus any additional reservation charges.
    • If less than 3 days from day of arrival - customer will lose the first day's payment on each site, plus any additional reservation charges.
    • No refund is given, if no advance notification is received.
So it's $26 or $24 now to hold a spot and we are booking Area 2 (Lakeview) first, and there are only 17 spots left because I just book one! We will overflow to Area 3 (Big Pine), but that's OK, we are going to have tons of fun. Stay tuned for the next stage...event planning!!!

Please encourage all of your camper friends to come out and camp with us, tents, screened shelters, and cabins are available too!

Thumbs Up

"Throw that logic at the DW some night. It helps when I have backup!"

Logic and women don't mix. There's a reason why Mr Spock was a man. In any case, we don't live that far from Tyler. About 60 miles. You can extend your stay before and/or after at our house or across the lake at the county park which is extremely nice with every site on the water. We have a boat and water toys to play with. We'd make sure it's a good trip for you....excuse me, y'all. (My Yankee upbringing kicked in unexpectedly).

We do love the water!!

Travis...hey man, we need a "Rock Star" at the event...and you're it!  Stay around for a while and check out Canton First Monday Trades Days! A big deal around these parts....

Made our reservations today!!  Yahoo!  I called Tyler State Park directly and they (Marsha) did not know the R-pods were coming.  But they do now!  Marsha said October is always filled, so if you want to be part of this fun, reserve ASAP!
See you there!

I just stripped out a massive amount of code to reply to this.  What browser are you using?  Might it be a worthwhile exercise to try a different one?

With that said, welcome & glad you're planning to make the rally.  (At least, I think I remember that you are.) Tongue

We3bPodding, looking at the code I keep stripping out, it looks like something on your computer is trying to insert spam into all of your posts.  I'd make sure your virus software is up-to-date.

Speaking of anti-virus software. A lot of folks may not realized that MS provides a very very good solution that includes continued updates and it's absolutely free.

Thank you! Just booked our spot. There is only one spot left in Area 2. I learned that it is first come-first serve. We can't actually pick the spot we want. Unfortunately, due to work obligations, we can not arrive until Thursday the 22nd, in the evening. But we will be there Thursday-Sunday. Yay! Hold that last spot for us. We will see y'all Thursday evening. Big smile

Alright, Alright, Alright  Thumbs Up  now we got us a BIG TEXAS RALLY!...If there is only 1 spot left in the Lakevew Loop (area 2), that means that we may have 17 Podders that have booked, AND...we're just getting started. There is still plenty of room in Big Pine (area 3) with tons of pull through spots with FULL hooks ups!

As a reminder to all of are other camper friends. This event is OPEN to all campers.
