New to the forum. We purchased our 178 last winter. Used it about half dozen times over the summer after our last trip the slide out stopped working. The motor was turning but not moving. Brought the camper to the dealer we bought it from and there it's sat for the last two months. They told me the gear was stripped. I saw some older posts on this, has it become a more common problem? Just called the dealer again they told me they have no idea when the parts are going to be in. They don't seem to care too much about this and told me this was typical when they need to get parts from FR. Is this true? I'm pretty sure I was speaking with the owner and I told her I was going to contact FR. She said ok go ahead. Does anyone know if I can go to any dealer for warranty service? If it were my dealership I'd have pulled parts from another Pod and fixed it but apparently customer service is not high on their priority list. I also had to pay for them to winterized it because the weather has turned cold enough that I was afraid of a freeze up.

Any thoughts?

I have done a fair amount of R - POD reading and this is the first I have heard of a slide failure. I have been in touch with the FR people on other issues and they have been very responsive. I think your dealers response "...have no idea." says it all...where is the customer service in that?

I plan on trying to call FR tomorrow. I am hoping they will be a bit more helpful. I don't mind waiting if someone can tell me when the part will be available. And you are exactly correct about the dealer and I will be sure to let FR know how helpful the dealer was. Two months and the only time I've heard from them is when I call.

This is the contact page I used...I called the number under Coachman RVs. I think some of the other podders in here actually know the name and phone number of the individual that takes care of R-POD warranty issues. Maybe someone will come along and help by posting it here. Good Luck! Please keep us informed about how things go.

I'm particularly interested to understand why your slide failed.

I have always said its the dealer who makes the rpod experience the best is what it is. If your dealer doesn't give you a very indepth walk through.... watch out for any warranty issues. I am so glad we dealt with Travel-Mor of Ottawa. Walk through and warranty issues have been a walk in the park.

Another thought for the OP that comes to mind: take your Pod to another dealer! That kind of lack of service shouldn't be rewarded by your patience.  IMO.  You may not get stellar service from another dealer, either - judging by comments here on getting service from a dealer you didn't buy from - but I'd sure as heck give it a try.

Good luck, & please post back updates on your progress.
