Hola Pod Peeps,
I am making curtains for Podimus. I was hoping to remove the cornices and leave the blinds. Is this possible? Or are they attched?
Thanks!

Are cornices the fabric covered things at the top? Either way, they are two separate pieces both removable or just one or the other if you so choose.

Yes, the cornices (thats what I call them) are the fabric covered thingys. And, thanks for your help. I didn't want to start taking things apart if it was all one piece.
They don't look like they are going to be fun to take down either.

I thought the "fabric covered thingys" were the valence...and the sliding folding blind is the cornice board?

Each dohickey is attached by itself is the important thing to take away from this? LOL
I only knew the blinds were blinds. The word valance seems to work in my head as well.
But yuh the blinds are screwed randomly into places above your window, the fabric thingamabobbers typically have an L bracket with one or two screws holding them to the wall.
I removed all of mine years ago, couple of screws and some odd angles at times but everything came down and went back up successfully.

Well, it was all for nothing. When they installed the cornice ... valances... take your pick, they hid some of the screws. We can see where they are, we just can't get to them. And it appears that the blinds are either attached by rivets to the cornice or the wall. So disappointing. Kinda put a kink in my design plan. Back to the drawing board...

In my 178 those fabric covered thingamabobbers® are screwed to the wall on both ends of the thingamabobbers®. The screws are hidden in the folds of the fabric, but still can be gotten to by pulling the folds back. If you click the link in my sig, you should see one of the windows with the thingamabobbers® removed.
BTW, I thought a cornice was a small chicken. I make a great stuffed cornice hen! Oh wait...that may be cornish.
fred
EDIT: I just remembered about the pic I pointed you to. Ignore the aluminum angle bar and brass L bracket. That's not stock. I used those to support my shelves. Sorry.

Fred! You are the man! The photos and something you said about the sceew being hidden in the fold of the fabric made a light bulb go off in my head. Found the mystery screw and we got the cornish...I mean cornice down! Yipeee! Thanks so much!

One more question - pleeeez. I was planning to use Command hooks to mount the curtain rods. It works OK if you don't plan to open and shut the curtains. The action of opening and shutting causes the rod to come out of the hook and the curtain lays a little funky. I could probably fix these problems, but I was wondering something else. The hardware that came with the curtain rods comes with 2 screws for each side to hold each bracket. Will the brackets hold if we just screw them into the wall of the Rpod?
Thanks for your help in advance :)

Yup, they will bite into the wallboard quite well to hold up those small curtain rods.

In this situation I like to use a small dab of titebond to harden the penetration point on the wall board surrounding the threads of the chosen fastener.

I left the boxy thingamabobs in-place and then used spring-loaded curtain rods to mount the curtains inside the boxy thingamabobs. They never moved.

Took a closer look at the blinds & cornices (or Cornishes, if you prefer). Looks like a challenge: I rooted around for 15 minutes & never could find even one screw. Do the blinds need to come down before the cornices, or does it matter? I've already proved I'm no good at electricity. Surely I can do curtains!

Some of the screws are under the 45 degree folds on top. You may be able to use a magnet to locate. Good luck!

I we have figured out how to get the cornices down and have put up one curtain (actually ended up making valances - ironic, eh?). I will post photos as soon as I can figure out how to size them for upload, which has turned out to be a much bigger challenge!

Yep! We love to see out our windows - the curtains that were my first run at it were going to interfere too much with our view. The blinds will still provide privacy when needed. My personal taste is that curtains soften the look a little and makes it feel more like home. The cornices are ok, but curtains are more our style. If I had the skills, I would cover the seats and cushions. I'm afraid that is beyond my skill set at the sewing machine.

When you get to the rear window consider extending the tracks left and right. With no stack-back the original curtains do not fully uncover the window. There's a lot more to see out there .

Charlie, you're right! The rail on the rear curtain is flawed. Like you said before, the screw heads are to large and they get in the way and keep the curtain from sliding freely.
Question: Where did you find the rail at? That is, what is your source for buying more of it? Thanks!
