Well, here we go!  We Take delivery on it tomorrow!  Will be hauling it with an F 150 (v8).  I am curious if anyone advises a weight distribution hitch and or the sway bar?

Folks at dealership advised not to worry about it at this time.

Will be enjoying this gem!  First new rv we have purchased.

So, Hello to all

With the F150 you fall in the category of "don't really need it, but might want it." Good luck on your trip home.

Welcome.  At the very least you should get a sway bar.  They are cheap.  However, even with a heavy-dity TV a WDH will give you a better ride and better control under extreme conditions.

We bought our 178 in June. Tow it with a Sierra small 8 with WDH and sway bars. Put a lift kit on the Pod and when driving I keep looking back to make sure it is still there. Wink Works extremely well.

thanks all for information.
Do you think a weight distribution hitch helps out swaying?  I haven't even picked it up yet but with advise from you guys I am thinking I'll put one on.
thanks

Yes, but I needed it to extend my hitch capacity from 3k to 6k and TW capacity from 300lb to 600lb per the hitch manufacture specs. I also have double friction sway bars. So far, I have towed over 2000 miles and it is rock solid. You may not need it on a nice commerce blue sky beautiful fall day. But you may wish you had it on wet, stormy, wind gusting, truck bow wave bouncing crappy day. Smile  An updated set-up is referred to as E2 and includes a double cam spring bar action to prevent sway.

rpodbend, there are multiple types of sway and weight distribution systems, some don't do anything for sway, some dampen it, some prevent it.  One is the sway bar, which only dampens sway and does nothing related to weight distribution.  Another is a weight distribution hitch (WDH) which does not include sway control, you need to also use a sway bar to help control sway.  Then there are WDHs which include sway control as part of their design, like the Equalizer or E2.  Finally there are WDHs which have active sway prevention, like the Reese Dual-Cam.

As some others have said, You may not need both weight distribution and sway control, but you will appreciate both once you have towed on a windy day or passing 18 wheelers.  I have towed our Pod over 20,000 miles -I wouldn't be without my Equalizer.  I have weighed the truck(Expedition EL) with and without the Pod while fully loaded.  the weight distribution hitch does transfer some of the weight to the front axle of the Expedition, keeping the rear from sagging. the sway bars make towing a lot easier and less stressful.

I highly recommend the Equalizer 600/6000unit.  Read the installation instructions and set it up properly-you will not be sorry for the extra $$$ spent. I think you will have a smoother and safer towing experience.

We also have an F150 with a V8. Our truck has a tow package, and the manual states that the electronic traction control of the truck will actívate to help control sway in the tráiler. I don't know what the "Heavy Duty Tow Package" in Fords includes. That said, we use sway bars/spring bars, which really helps to reduce "porpoising", and because we frequently have high winds. We only tow without sway bars towing to and from our storage location with an unloaded tráiler.
