Ohhh Man!! That's just cruel!!

All I caught was a cold mowing the lawn. Thumbs Down

Hope you got some of Chef Paul's Blackened Redfish Magic and a bunch of butter to do those reds up right!

Leo,

Read your post to wife. She has a few questions...

Bait? Tide? Time? Inside or outside? Boat or surf? Potatoes or rice?

Thanks!

Leo, Donna and I put 64 Blue Gill and Red Ear ( bream ) in the freezer fishing from the bank in small lakes in Southern Indiana while we were Podding in Hoosier National Forest. Our kids love it when Mom and Dad go fishing, catch the fish, clean the fish, Fry the fish, make home made tarter sauce, and all the side dishes and have them over for a fish fry. Nothing better than fresh caught fish.

Hope you got your freezer full, Leo! We decided to put off this week at Assateague. Weather just looked a little too funky. Will try again next week if the weather cooperates. This time of year, reservations aren't really needed and it's only about 4 hours away.

Hope you got a smoker, Leo! Wow! I am so jealous and impressed!

Posting pics is pretty easy, but first you need to put them somewhere on your computer where you can find them. It's best if you can keep the image size down to no more than about 800 pixels wide. Most image or camera software should let you resize a picture. If all you are offered is small, medium and large...choose medium.

OK, here we go!

1) Make a folder on your desktop or in documents folder and call it "pod people". Put your images in this folder.

2) If you haven't already done so, go into Full Reply Editor by clicking the arrow icon in the post editor bar.

3) Now let's open the Image Insert dialog by clicking the tree icon in the post editor bar.

4) This will open the Image Insert dialog box. We are going to Choose File.

5) We will now navigate to the image you saved in the beginning in your podpeople folder

6) You will select the image and then click Choose.  You will notice now that the Image Upload box has changed in the bottom left, showing you the filename you selected from your folder. Click the Upload button.

7) A dialog box will pop up asking you to be patient. You are a fisher person, so this shouldn't be a problem. Click OK.

8) Within a second or two or three four, you will see the image in the Image Upload dialog window. At the bottom of that window click OK and your image will magically appear in your post!

I hope that helps you and whoever else might be able to use it. Now I got got root!!

Go O's!!!

OMG!! Nice fish Leo!!

I've been making sausage today, but got nuthin on you!

Very impressed. Nice sunset too!

You might want to try and make the pics a little smaller before you upload them, if you can. No problem, though - makes the fish look bigger than life-size!

So how to you cook the reds? I like them blackened.

Holding out one arm and hand...Did I ever tell you about the amazing one armed fisherman that caught one this long! LOL

Unfortunately my idea of fishing is to go to the local market and point at one on ice.  However, I am interested in what kind of sausage are you making.  I have a large cast iron smoker and have recently tried my hand at sausage making.  Got a grinder and haven't poisoned anyone yet.  Safe Travels.

Bob,

Don't want to derail Leo's fantastic fish thread, but...

Just put a bunch of sausage in the freezer. I only make breakfast (country) sausage and traditional Italian sausage. Both start with a pork butt, usually about 8 lbs. Grind with Kitchen Aid meat grinder attachment. Usually, I just make sausage patties for breakfast and little balls of Italian which we use in lot's of different recipes.

This time, I thought I'd try some casings and then (hot) smoke some of the breakfast sausage links. Well, that was a total fail. The stuffing attachment for the Kitchen Aid started turning my beautiful ground sausage into paste. I bailed on that quick until I can borrow or buy a good (LEM) stuffer.  The fresh country (breakfast) sausage is so good, I'm not sure how much more the smoking will add. Anyway, here is the recipe I use:

Traditional Italian (2 lbs.):

3 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
3 1/2 teaspoons toasted fennel seed - ground

Country (2 lbs.):

2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons fresh ground pepper (or to taste)
1 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
1/2 teaspoon dried marjoram
1/4 teaspoon dried savory
1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
1 1/2 teaspoon dark brown sugar
pinch of cloves
1/4 cup cold water

I trim pork but, slice to 1 to 1/2 inch pieces, then spice, then let sit in fridge for a day before grinding. I use a 1/4 cup measuring scoop to measure out breakfast patties and Italian balls.

Fun stuff!

OK...Back to fishing!!

Just picked up a couple of new Chugger baits. Blowing a gale down on the shore so we've opted to try a few nights on the northern Chesapeake starting tomorrow => http://dnr2.maryland.gov/publiclands/Pages/central/elkneck.aspx - Elk Neck State Park

Still gonna be a pretty stiff northwest wind, but we'll be in the lee on the Elk River and, hopefully, will get a chance to do some kayak bass fishing.

Yeah we have had steady wind today right now it is a steady 26 mph with gust to 35. Still got out for a couple hours this morning and caught another 7 so we are at 197 assorted fish so far this trip.
Gonna head out in the morning to try for another red drum and some flounder.

I got into a few Small Mouth Bass today in a small stream in Southern Indiana. Ultra Light fishing with chest waders until I found out the waders were leaking and I had 10 inches of 50 plug degree water in both of my feet. Note to self put new chest waders on Christmas list.

Leo,

Hope you brought an extra utility trailer to haul all that fish home!! Man, sounds like you had a great time and thanks so much for sharing. Fish catching stories are almost as much fun as reeling them in!! Thanks!

We barely got a line wet last weekend. Just had too much fun exploring a new place, hiking, biking, etc. We're going to try to make it to Assateague Tuesday if the weather holds. I bought few http://trophyrigs.com - Trophy Rig High Lows just cuz I've heard so many good things about them.

Tight Lines!!

Hope the weather is good......catching the drum is amazing, they are one of the best fighting fish I have come across. We had them bite on finger mullets, shrimp and on chunk bait ( cut up spot). The 4 we all cruising along the shore and none were more that 20-25 feet off the beach. When cleaning them it looked like they were feeding on crabs and the silver side minnows.
Sad to leave just as the Blues were really starting to come in.
But now I have to head back home and start to get ready for ice fishing some big trout, walleye and salmon will be almost as much funThumbs Up
