Hey James, how's it going? I have just recently done a ton of research on towing and IMHO 3,000 is not enough and its only one of several other factors that must be considered. I found an excellent paper on how to tow safely. It's written by an expert on the subject. Check it out...good luck Sir.

Welcome.  I agree that 3000 isn't enough for a pod.  The lightest, the 171, will be right on the limit once you add pod options, LPG, battery, your stuff and your food for a trip.  Fill the water tank and you'll be well over.

Then there is hitch weight.  The same pod loaded up will probably be around 300 pounds and I'm sure that is 50-100 pounds over the limit for the Subaru.

The Wrangler is rated for 3500lbs and has a tough go.
I'm sure a WDH and overloads would help, but the minivan motor just doesn't have the oomph. My get-up-and-go has got-up-and-went.
-I should really have that on a bumper sticker-

That button at the top of the remote?
That's the power button..press it.
Turn it all off.
Go outside!

Those 3.8s are real dogs, the 3.6 does a much better job.  In a pinch, I've towed my (700# empty) utility trailer hauling a 3500# pallet of bricks with my '13 JK two door, plenty of power, handled the weight just fine.  Luckily, I hit the sweet spot as far as tongue weight was concerned.  On the other hand I used my '02 TJ to bring my empty 181G (2748# per Forest River) home on a rainy day.  Even going very slow (as if a 4.0 could go fast anywhere but downhill) it was sheer terror!  Never again!
