OK..... so how many people have the r dome and love it? I did not get one with my pod, but I do have an 8x8 pop up canopy. I really like having an awning and on all my other campers, always had it out unless in a crazy bad wind storm. I met a podder this past weekend who said, he felt like if you could only spend money on one thing, it would probably be the dome. Called dealer today to check. They sell for 550.00 and he does not keep them in stock. So, would you all advise to get one and if so, which is the exact one to get for a 2015 178? Hello, we love the dome on our 2015 171. I believe this would fit you 178 also. If you don't want to pay that price check out this website below. So funny......i just bookmarked that site. I have a question for you. Do the flaps on the side fold back toward the camper? In the pics, I see there is an open wedge between the camper and the awning itself. Just wondered if it closed up on the sides to give a little more protection in rainy weather. I agree. I always put it up for a long weekend or 1-2 week camping. I keep the screens up and put the flaps down when it might rain or is a bit chilly. I use a small folding table and have seated 6 for dinner (when rainy) or just 2 for a relaxed breakfast. The flaps can be used for varying levels of privacy. I did have a problem with the zipper on the front facing panel (used mostly as entry way) ... This spring I replaced zipper with purchased #10 zipper which is heavy duty. I just got my Rpod with the R-dome. we put it up on our dry run and thought it was outstanding. i'm not sure how much they are, we bargained that into the price but I would say it is worth it. It gets a little tricky in a breeze to install but of course I have only put it up once. It looks cool, especially when the queen tent bed is extended! (176T) ------------- Daddy, Mommy and Daughter. Are you familiar with the mod to make seat into "C" styled couch? (Folding up mattress and sliding it into the tent). I don't know if FR now does that on its Production models. As a 176T owner it's the BEST thing I ever did to my Pod. I have the same question. I purchased a 179 yesterday and cringed when they said they would take $95 off the rdome price and give it to me for $600. That didn't sound much better for a tent. I can get a 15'x13' screen room for 1/5 the price. I think the screen room would possibly be easier to take down in the pop-up gail force winds that I always seem to get into. If I don't get it down, it's a $110 loss vs $600. Really need a strong argument to sway me to get one...and I welcome that! ------------- Bunker Hill, IN |

It's just one of those things you almost have to try to know. If I had to buy a new one tomorrow because mine got damaged I would not hesitate in the slightest to drop 500-600 dollars for it's replacement. I agree with Travis; If anything bad happened to our Dome, we would quickly replace it. We love our Dome!
We camped with friends a little over a month ago. When we setup the campsite, we put the Dome up, because that's what we do. It takes about 12 minutes. That evening a very cool breeze popped up that was quite chilly. We dropped the side curtains & 1 end curtain. Forest River only uses 1 size now. | I was told by camping world that one size fits all, sort of. The one we have is a little small for the 178, but does ok. I wanted one and got it thrown in with the trailer. Find I use our 11x11 pop up more because it's quicker to set up. |
