So we ran our fridge for the first time on propane to test it out  When we stopped later that day, we turned it off, also turned off propane.  Well, the fan on the back kept running.  Like for an hour and a half.  Not sure why it would not shut off.  Yes, double checked fridge was shut off, no light inside, all lights on front off.  Finally had to disconnect batteries to get it to shut off.

What gives?

John.

The fans are controlled by their own thermistor/thermostat, sounds like it is bad.  Look for it mounted at the top of the top fins.

I thought that I saw it there. Do you know how I would test it, where I would get another one?  Dometic only item?

You could do a continuity test on it - if the continuity is good at normal outside temperatures then it is bad. The part shouldn't be expensive, but the RM8501 is imported and all parts are imported so they are much higher than for other fridges. I only found one place online for parts when I recently looked and it was hard to find (sorry, I don't have a link right now).
However, that part really is generic so any RV service department should be able to supply you with one that would fit or be close enough that a little modification would make it fit.
