I know this has been talked about, but I can't find the info. We finally are putting up our RDome for the first time and it's going well. My question - what have people done with the netting that slides along the bottom in regards to the tire? I remember reading about people cutting the netting to make room for the step, but can't remember what was said about dealing with tire. We cut a slot in the netting to clear the axel. However we no longer use the netting as we store stuff under the pod when we are set up and the netting really never kept anything out anyhow Todd ------------- Todd and Beth 2013 RP 176 T 2013 Nissan Pathfinder |

Thanks for your reply, Todd. That's what we ended up doing. Another question: how many stakes do you use to stake the dome down? We don't use the netting either. We usually steak the

I steak all of the steak points that I don't use as a door or open at anytime. I've been out in the middle of the night during a storm driving steaks in my bottoms only because I only steaked minimally. I've never fooled with the netting either -- as for stakes, it just depends on the weather and maybe how long we're going to be in the same spot. I've staked just the front corners sometimes but on the beach or if a storm is predicted I'll put in every stake I can find. TT ------------- 2010 176 FJ Cruiser |

Been through some pretty good storms but don't know the wind speeds. Did have a flexi pole snap once. Got a replacement from FR straight away. Mainly because my dome did not come with the two tie down straps. FR sent me straps when they shipped the new flexi pole No issues since! Larry and Pat, up here north of 49 we have to use the bottom screening to keep out the mosquitos, black flies and deer flies. I'd never put up the dome without putting in the bottom screen. Make 2 sections out of the bottom screen. Make the cut between the wheel and door. You've got the door section down ok with the slit for the step. Now, make sure the 2 sections overlap between the wheel and door. Cut a slit vertical for the axle, this will be your short piece. Where the 2 pieces overlap between the door and wheel take a clothes pin and pin them together. With the 2 pieces it makes putting the bottom screen in a breeze. Don't cut off any excess screening just turn them into the dome to help make it a little more bug proof. ------------- Ron & Shirley 2020 Tacoma 2012 177 rpod |

Ron and Shirley, Thank you for your input. I just returned from a non-camping trip to Minnesota and the mosquitoes were awful. I've had experience with the flies as well, yuck. On the screen behind the tire, I cut it so that it would hang down around the axel. The same thing I did for the steps. ------------- Scott & Kim The Mountains are calling and a Podding we must go! |
