We've closed on our 177 and will pick it up in June in MI and head to the west coast.  Tow vehicle will be a 2007 BMW X3.  Have had UHaul install a hitch.  Wondering if any of you have installed your own Brake Controller.  Also, have you done anything extra for your side mirrors on the X3?    Also wondering how the BMW X3 does as a tow vehicle.  Do we need to higher terrain and mountains or does it pull like a champ?

Also, with the 177, how much storage space do we actually have inside?  There is storage under the dinette seats, right?

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience/expertise.

We just had a discussion yesterday about adding a brake controller.  You may want to consider a wireless controller as mentioned:  http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4692&title=newish-tv - http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4692&title=newish-tv

Most people find that the narrow sides on the pod allow you to use factory mirrors on most TVs.

We just got our 177.  IFRR, there is storage under one dining seat.  The other is closed and has electronics or something.  I'm told that you can open it up and with a little carpentry get some more storage.  We had uhaul install hitch and controller.  I'd have done both, but we wanted it quickly.  I'd have puttered.  The controller would be easy to install, I think.

Welcome.  Yes, in older pods that area was only partially blocked off for the converter, the rest was open storage.

There is also some room under the bed. We just use a plastic tub for clothing there.
We bought our 2011 177 used last summer and the previous owner had screwed a plastic bin to the floor under the drivers side dinette seat so things wouldn't wander around into the charger/fuse box and such. He also put hinges on the compartment cover for easy access. We put things in there that we don't us much or hopefully only for emergencies.  Wink

Well, our 177 is now in dry dock in our drive. We'll outfit and christen it over the next few weeks. So it's exploring time. I want to see what is in some of those crannies.

Make sure you seal it up well before you float it for the first time, and get the outboard motor attachment for the rear receiver...

Just wanted to thank you all for your replies.  If anybody could give me dimensions for that underseat storage area, I'd appreciate it.  If not -- well, we'll know soon enough.

Love the Pod-Tiki!  Never would have that of that!
