Very convenient park if visiting the Pikes Peak area, have been there several times in past but this was first camping experience.

Overall has excellent facilities, they still seem like new, even though park has been open a number of years now. Mix of back in and pull through sites, all fairly flat concrete pads, though given the campground is essentially on a mountain/hillside some leveling might be needed. I would caution on at least a few sites in Swift Puma loop (loop we camped in) have a fairly steep grade at entrance. Sites 35-37 seemed the worst. I'd also note the campground pdf notes these are "moderate", but classified our site (41) as steep. This seemed like it was backwards to me, as our site was not bad, but those other 3 would have given me some concern backing into.

Not going to find a ton of shade, it's mostly scrub oak at best and generally most of the sites are pretty open, but decent spacing helps privacy. On the plus side you get nice views of the city and Cheyenne Mountain. You can also kind of see the lights for the NORAD entrances.

One other site note, the sewer is at the very back corner of all the back in sites I saw, so having a 15-20ft hose would be recommend, otherwise you might have to back in/over the end of pad, and a few sites this may not be possible as they have fences to block steep drop-offs.

Park has a good amount of hiking/biking trails. That and wildlife are the primary draws for the park itself.  Note however that dogs are not permitted on ANY trails, but they are ok in campground/campsite areas.

Sounds like a neat place! We are going to have a few extra days of free time when we are out there, and planning to visit & planning to visit Pikes Peak. So this might be a " must do".

No problem, we'll have a house sitter.  Wink

I'm picking my wife up in Denver on the 6th, then we are heading to Rocky Mt. National Park, Cheyenne Mt. St. Park on the 7th, touring Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine that day.  Pike's Peak on the 8th, and the Great Sand Dunes on the 9th.  Mesa Verde on the 10th.
