Has anyone used one of these on their Rpod?

I'm thinking about getting one but not sure what size to get (4" or 6") and I'm wondering if it will interfere with my WDH.

Does anyone have any experience using one?

Thanks!

Cody

Cody, I can't see how it would interfere with your WDH.  Does your WDH have anything that would interfere with the bottom of your jack?
I'd think the 6 is the better deal.  If you need less than that, you can manually hold the flipjack, in the up position as you crank it down.
Others have them here and can chime in also.

I just have a standard Equalizer WDH.  Not sure if it would interfere.  That's why I'm asking.  I figured the timing or the size of the the flipjack could somehow affect the WDH load bars.

Thanks.

I have one (I think the 6", but not sure). It folds away perfectly so it certainly won't interfere with the WDH. The one thing was that I had to shorten the jack shaft a bit in order for it to have enough room to drop and retract fully.

Thanks for the response.  If you could have done it again, would you have bought the shorter flip jack (i.e. 4") so you didn't have to cut the jack shaft or maybe something simpler like this?

Thadd, do you have the 3" risers on your Pod frame? That would make a difference in how much room the flip foot would have when deployed.

Actually the reason I had to shorten it was because when the jack retracts all the way it wouldn't fold flat. For height when deployed (I have risers) it was fine before and after shortening.

Thanks Thadd.  What did you use to the cut the jack tube?  Hack saw?

I can see that it could be useful but we use a dolly wheel and the two would not work attached at the same time. You either have one or the other and we use our dolly wheel often if there was a way to easily remove it and attach it with out a bolt and nut we could use it.

I used a sawzall to chop off about 4 inches then used a step bit to drill new bolt holes. The whole process took less than 10 minutes.

Thad: the reason I asked is that I take delivery on my 179 next week and bought the flip away. When measuring for either the 4" or the 6", Fast-away suggests that if there is 10" or more clearance from the bottom of outer lift tube to the ground, they suggest the 6" model. I measured 14 inches on a level 179, so bought the taller model.  Your mod makes me wonder if the shorter version would have been better. I won't install it until I get the Pod, so can still return it.  Thoughts?

I think that the longer vs. shorter won't really affect the mod I had to make. I'm fairly sure mine is 6" and the only time it's ever been an issue is when I'm parking in my driveway at home and the odd angle requires me to put some blocks under the jack in order to get off the hitch. I've never had a situation where I didn't have enough clearance to flip mine down (which would be the dilemma of the 6").

Either way, that only affects the flip away when it's in the deployed position. I suspect that if you don't have risers, the 4" would be fine deployed.

My mod was for when it's not deployed. Basically the jack wouldn't retract up far enough for the flip away to fold snugly on the underside of the tongue -- when it was all the way retracted, the flip away could still pivot a few inches (not enough to drop down, but enough to bounce around).

My flipjack didn't interfere with my WDH at all.  Drilled my holes and done.

Did you end up cutting the jack tube like Thadd did?

No I didn't have to do any modifications or shortening of the tube.
