Well, I'm almost convinced I need a surge protector, the question is....Which one? Any one with an opinion? (I really didn't need to ask that question ) Cost is a factor, but not the foremost consideration, I also want to look at; size, hard wired or not, and special features. Let the conversation begin.

Thanks Mark, it's one of the units I have on my list and it's on sale until Monday at Camping World. I have enough room on the outside wall, beside the hot water tank. Just wanted some "input" before I pulled the trigger.

Mark,

Do you use the remote display a lot? Do you look at it every now and then or just when you first plug in?

The reason for asking is there is a Progressive Industiries hard wired with a integrated display (EMS-LCHW30) a little cheaper. Is the remote worth the extra expense?

A) Make sure you shop the price some.. I hate to say it, CW is an awesome place, but most times, they don't have the lowest delivered price.

B)The remote means the big ugly box can be hidden in a compartment, and only the small unobtrusive display is "out".

C)Yes we look at the display from time to time so we can see what the amp draw is (mostly) you can compare/check what different appliances are using, etc. Just yesterday in fact, kymooses and I were comparing the amp load of factory incandescent bulbs in their pod versus the load of the LED's in ours, with every bulb on, we are pulling less than half the amps they are, and we have just about the biggest drawing LED's there are for our fixtures. We mounted our display so it's most easy to see from outside on the ground, so I can plug in to the pedestal, flip the breaker, walk around and just look in the door, and by that time it will be telling me if all is good or not.

It would appear I have not taken a picture of the remote mount, but it is just to the left of power distribution box, near the top. I will take a picture next time I am in the pod.. One thing to keep in mind is, if there is power, the display is lit.. so plan accordingly when mounting if for you, like me, sleep comes best "after dark"..

Ok.. so it's not a long walk out to the pod.. excuse the mess.

Mark,

Is the remote worth $40? I usually go for things like this, but I am just undecided on this one.Wink

I could still look under the seat just to check it. Clap My wife doesn't like all the glowing things at night to begin with.

I am beginning to hate making decisions. Thanks...

It was worth $40 to me.. but I am kinda geeky.. Tongue

I have a mid-pipe/flow thermocouple on my wood stove chimney so I can monitor stack temps..

Wow, $40, Camping world wants $109. I ordered the protector, but not the remote, I figured I could get it anytime. Thanks all for your help.

Old Dingo,

Which surge protector did you order? The $109 remote is for a Surge Gard not the Progressive Industries hard wired with remote display.

I am looking at the Progressive Industries 30 AMP hard wired EMS with integrated display for $189 through Lawrence RV. The Progressive Industries 30 AMP hard wire with remote is $229.

I was wondering where folks with a 178 are placing their hardwired surge protectors.
Thanks in advance for your replies.
