Does anyone have any experience with the Smarter Tools 2000W generator? It's got a Yamaha motor and is on sale at my local Costco for $569 which seems like a great deal to me (might even be worth getting two so we could run the AC).

Here's the product page:  http://www.usesmartertools.com/AP-2000i.html - http://www.usesmartertools.com/AP-2000i.html . It has decent reviews at Home Depot but if any podders have experience I'd be interested to hear.

That looks really interesting, thadd.

Anxious to hear from any experiences.

Thanks!

Looking at the specs, it doesn't say it's linkable, so getting two to run the a/c won't work if it's not. Ouch

Wife and I bought one last year when we went to the NW get together . We took it back to the camp ground and hooked it up as soon as we turned the 1100 watt micro on it kicked the gen set out and had to shut it off to reset. There was a young couple next to us that hat a Honda 2000 watt and we hooked it up and it worked fine. Will say one thing about Costco they honor their warranty, the worker compared theirs to Honda and said they are the same specs well"???????? We have a Honda now

One of many knock-offs of the Honda & Yamaha inverter-generators.  They are always much cheaper, but also much louder and heavier.  I've read many stories like Craneman's where they don't operate at their rated specs - some models do, some don't.  One reason the Yamahas and Hondas are so quiet (even at full output) and always exceed their specs is their motors are oversized, where many of the off-brands are barely sized correctly.  I don't see any mention of a paralleling capability with this model so double-check that.

The Yamaha EF2400is which I have had no problems this past summer with the A/C in high temps, or the microwave (not running them at the same time, not quite big enough for that).  I'm seriously considering getting a slightly larger model to get a larger gas tank, if anyone would be interested in my current genset let me know.

I tried one last fall.  It was light and quiet, but did not deliver enough power to even run the microwave.  Costco is good about returns, so I did.  For about the same money, I will be purchasing a Generac from Amazon if the snow ever melts.
