Is there any way to have Forest River install a Coleman 9200 Polar Cub AC on a 178 or the new 179. The thing I like is that a 2000 watt generator will run it. OR would one order the unit pre wired and have the dealer install one?

Many have found over the years that with a "hard start mod" the 2000i will start and run the Dometic just fine. But if you wanted, as Travis said, just order without, and add what you want. I honestly think a smaller a/c would be better. I think the 13.5 has a tendency to "over cool" and cycles improperly because of that. A smaller unit would be better because it would run in longer, less "powerful" cycles.. ------------- |

John, I'm probably one of the few with a Polar Cub on their Pod. When we bought our 175 in 2010, it came wired for air, but with no unit. We live in Western Washington and seldom need air, so that was no problem. We're planning an extended trip next year to the S/W and East, so last year we had a Polar Cub installed.
We've had both Coleman and Dometic units in the past, and always been happier with Coleman units. The PC cools the Pod nicely, but not overly quickly. It is quieter than I remember our Dometics to have been. Our PC is not wired into the Pod thermostat. We use the ceiling control, which is no problem, as that's what we're used to. Due to the length of the PC and the Pod's roofline, make sure the PC is installed with the foam rear brace that is so common with many A/C installs. The Polar Cub has run fine with our Yamaha EF2000IS up to now. We haven't dry camped @ much elevation or high temperatures as of yet while using the PC/Yamaha combo. I think the PC comes with a hard start capacitor already installed--I've been wrong before. In any case, the PC draws less juice that the 13.5 btu units. The Dometic will run on a Yamaha EF2400, which is still moveable by one person (but easier with 2 people). Might be cheaper than 2 of the Hondas.
