Has anybody wished there Suburban cook top had a better low flame setting? Maybe there have been a jetting change to regulate it better than our 09 model.

Yup, sure do. It is very hard to get it set just right for a low flame, and usually I end up turning it off once or twice accidentally until I get it where I want it at.

I believe that you can get what is known as a "flame tamer" at some of the better kitchen accessory stores. It sits on top of the burner and you put your pot on top of it. It absorbs most of the heat and then you are able to slowly melt your chocolate or saute whatever. Hope that helps. Safe Travels.

We did two things to improve the cooking in our pod.. got a flame tamer from BB&B, and picked up a set of http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-STOW-8-Stowaway-Stainless-Steel-Cookware/dp/B0007QS6G2/ref=pd_sxp_f_pt - Cuisinart nesting pots and pans, with a heavy bottom.

We also purchased the Cuisinart nesting set, recommended by someone on a post before we purchased our Pod. Since I am the chief cook and bottle washer while camping, we mostly just boil water inside to keep any long term food odors from fouling the inside. I cook on an outside grill or a Coleman 2 burner white gas stove that I have had for more than 40 years. Wonder what your cooking inside that needs a low flame. Safe Travels.

Eggs or pancakes mainly on a non-stick skillet ... breakfast is the only time I ever cook inside, and only then if it is nasty outside. Like you I'm the chief cook and I like doing it outside on our Coleman stove, the portable bbq or over an open fire.

Yep.. we also roll with a 40+ year old coleman 2 burner, and often with an original Peak1 single nearly as old. The white gas stoves do have a better controlled flame than the propane burners. I also would rather cook outside, but sometimes you can't, or need to simmer a sauce etc, and the inside burners are good for that..
I actually started carrying a medium sized electric skillet this fall.. we will see how that goes. We almost always have hookups now days..

We've carried a cheap electric burner for a few years now, and use that outside whenever we have hookups. We have a good 2-burner propane stove outside, too. We use a crock pot a lot too.

We've used and electric skillet for 16 years now when we camp. That didn't change once we got our Pod. Now we have a Cuisinart Griddler too! Love that thing, makes great grill marks on steaks!!

What about a cover for the pod's 2-burner stove? Has anyone found a cover that fits at a height that's over the dials? Or are people building their own??

I like alot of others have bought a cutting board and added legs to it which fits/covers the cook top perfectly. I put some no skid pads on my legs. Great place to serve food, drip/dry dishes, or just a another stacking spot!!! Easily removes for when you need to use the burners. I actually have not done alot of mods or at least the ones I have done have been pretty basic, but this is by far the one I found the most important or beneficial. I bought my board at wally mart and attatched large dowels for the legs with two way screws. Turned out great.

Thanks, hogone, for your answers to both my questions! I don't consider myself much of a "handyman" (or "handywoman", I should say!), but this sounds pretty simple. I'll make the attempt! Also, I would imagine our winters are fairly similar? St. Louis and Salt Lake City? Maybe I won't spent the money on a cover after all...

The above Cuisinart set is "currently not available" At least on Amazon. I'll have to check with BB&B later.

After a bit of research, I spoke with someone at Suburban. They don't have any updates, this unit is also made in china. The Atwood 2 burner is USA made, so I will go to the RV show in January here in Boise and try one of their models out. If they work the way we would like, the 120$ is not a bad price. They are also the same physical size as the Suburban. http://www.americanrvcompany.com/Atwood-DV20-W-56492-White-2-Burner-Drop-In-Cooktop-Trailer-Camper-RV
