Last Saturday we finally got to get a look at the new 178's at our dealer in Santa Rosa, CA. There are some noticeable changes from last year's model. There is a new mattress...it actually looks like a mattress and not merely a foam pad. The t.v. over the queen bed is gone. There is a t.v. attached to a swivel arm so it can be seen from the back bed area or directed to face the dining table. The fabric design and colors have changed. I have to say I don't care so much for the choices, but oh well. You can now access the storage areas under the seats at the dining area. They are now hinged. There are speakers on the outside of the Pod on the door side and a place inside to plug in a USB memory stick for music. The color of the kitchen faucet is bronze, again not sure I like that color. The faucet has a sprayer that pulls down out of the spigot.

Next Saturday we get the walk through, pay the bill, and drive our yet to be named Pod home! We are beyond excited. Big smile I really wish we were heading into June instead of mid- October. I'm feeling the need of a road trip!

Congrats on the 178!  You could always come over to Florida for our get together for a road trip!

Congrats.  After you hit the Florida get together, head up to Oregon for our next Roundup.  This past August we were at Seaside Oregon.  We had 23 Rods and 11 other Forest Products with a total of 74 campers.  Had a great time.  Keep an eye on this forum for details of next years Roundup.  Safe Travels.

Congrats!!  You are receiving your new 178 before we are.  Ours won't be delivered until the middle of next month and you mentioned a few details we are not aware of.  I know what you mean about the color choices.  Our production run will have the Saddle interior, which is not my favorite based on the photos I have seen, but it may look better when we actually see it.

Have fun, and enjoy it.

Bob

We got our 178 and are taking it out for the first time this weekend.
I will be winterizing it on our first trip and we plan to do some 'dry' trips later on in the year.
This forum has been really helpful and the steps for winterizing are great!
I wish we had gotten the pod earlier in the year, but have some longer trips planned for next year!

We purchased our 178 Pod today at the RV Show in St. Augustine, FL.  Unfortunately we don't get to pick it up until next Saturday but I've already booked our first trip!  We have been Starcraft pop-up owners for almost 6 years.  I loved our pop-up but the set up/break down was really starting to ware on us...especially in the Florida summer heat! I have enjoyed reading many of the posts and have been taking notes Smile. If there is a Florida Pod outing we would love to know about it.  Looking forward to running into other Pod owners in our travels.

We're getting our 178 next week and can not wait!! We looked at the 177 here in Omaha but didn't like the rear entertainment unit and the local dealer would not budge one penny on the price. Did an internet search and found the 178 with the Crown Package in Sioux Falls and they matched the lowest price I was quoted from a dealer in Missouri. Going to be a BIG upgrade from the Dutchman mailto:T@DA - T@DA we had!!!

We had our first outing this past week and everything went well!! We had a good time and my son and I are going back to the area again today for the night.....we found a great fishing hole and were pulling in trout on our fly lines!! The only thing tht doesnt work is the latch on the door...I had to put foil in to keep the door jamb in position and even then the deadbolt wont work so the combination is useless...anyone else have this issue??
The plan is to have trout for lunch tomorrow!!
It is time for us to winterize and I am anxious about it because it is so new to us.....I will take it in to get it done at a dealer.....maybe next year!!

What year is yours?  There is an active recall on the locks, yours may be covered by it.  As for winterization, it isn't hard.  See the link in my signature for instructions.

We bought our 2011 R-P172 in Oct also and only got to squeeze in two trips that year before we had to winterize and cover it up. I spent a lot of time that winter setting in the pod reading the manuals, doing light mods and planning. it worked out pretty well. you still have a little time left even if its a driveway camp out

The latch on my 176 didn't work either. It would lock with the key from the outside, but not at all from the inside. After my first two trips, I had a list of items for the dealer to fix, that being one of them.

We got our 2014 178 two weeks ago.  We got the Pebble interior, and we like it.  I also like the bronze faucet with the pull-out sprayer.  Our keyless entry took a little getting used to, but we're now able to operate it consistently.  It takes a practiced touch.  We went on our first camping trip last weekend - everything worked great - and I had it winterized this morning.  I can't WAIT for spring now!  One question for the group:  to cover or not to cover?  My husband doesn't think it's needed, but I'm thinking it will help protect it while sitting outside all winter.  What does the experienced podder think?

I was wondering about covering as well but not because of harsh winter weather but more for hot humid weather. If we cover in between our trips (no more than 2 months) won't it get moldy smelling? I just wonder if it will trap the damp humid air. I know it would help with fading of decals but is that worth covering?
