I have not noticed any photos of pods that have a fan vent cover over the standard Fantastic bathroom fan.  The first thing I did when I bought my used pod was to install a Fantastic Ultra-Breeze cover to keep rain out when the fan dome (lid) is open.  I took it off of my old pod and will be installing it on my new 178 as soon as it is ready.

I have had similar covers over all the fans and/or vents in my previous RVs. Is there any particular reason why these are not installed on pods?

Why they don't come with one is any ones guess.  But they should.

I installed the Fantastic fan in my 173 and it has the thermostat and rain sensor.  However, I the dealer won't let me swap units when I pick up the new 178.  One problem I have with these is that I have to store my pod in a storage facility.  I leave the vent cracked open and disconnect the battery.  Otherwise, I would go the route you took.

If it's indoors, then the rain sensor is no big deal while in storage.. and you can just manually open the vent however high you want anytime..

True.  Most of us use outdoor facilities due to the cost of indoor storage in Florida.

I know what you mean.  I do have a cover on mine and I have a window open a little and the vent raised a little bit.

Did you discard the factory parts from your original fan? I kept mine, just in case...

I originally had the fan on a Dutchman Aerolite Zoom and transferred it to the 173.  I should have kept the original parts but I didn't.

I remember reading about how you updated your Fantastic fan and will have to search for it again.  I am assuming the standard R-Pod fan is not thermostatically controlled.

Since using your cover, have you had any mold problems inside or outside your pod?  The fear of mold or musty odors are the only reason I have not used a cover.

Correct, the stock fan is the "8000 Creat-A-Breeze by Fantastic Vent" You use the "6600R/417 Upgrade Kit", it takes about 10 minutes to instal the upgrade.

No problems at all.  I have had it on for over a year so far.  The cover has "breathing" room on top allowing air to circulate under the cover.
