Heading out tomorrow for our first Texas trip. Plan started at Corps of Engineer campground but with the government shutdown we have switched to Cedar Hill State Park.  The main purpose of the trip is our continuing quest to visit state fairs wherever the military moves us.
http://www.bigtex.com/ here we come.

I will post descriptions of the trip and the fair on return.

Had a great trip.  The state park was large and sites well maintained.  Many of the sites had full hook-up and with the vegetation you could not see your neighbors in many spots.  The bathrooms were large and clean and serviceable although a little worse for the wear.  Back to location although it was on a decent sized lake, it was only 30 minutes to Dallas and the State Fair.  We spent the day at the Texas State Fair and can say that they now deep fry everything.  Here are some pictures, to include the tarantula we found at the campground

Deep fried butter!

We saw tarantulas on the road several times as we drove through Texas this summer.  I could see them on the white and yellow lines from a distance.  I thought about stopping and showing them to the kids - my older daughter HATES spiders.  Evil Smile

So I see they rebuilt Big Tex already.  He burned last year.
