We just came home from Omaha with our new, 2013, 177.  Overall, it's great!  A few things we noticed right away were;
  • It doesn't have any 12 volt outlets!  I think they should add 4 in the 177;
  •   by the bed
  •   in the kitchen
  •   by the dinette
  •   one, exterior type, outside near the other outlets

  • A quieter air conditioner!  The fan is loud, and so is the compressor!  We couldn't hear each other unless we were right next to each other.  Most of the noise seems to be inside the trailer - not much heard outside.
  • The black water flush inlet might be better on the same side as the outlet.  (I DID, however, want to rinse it again, when we got home, and, with the bw valve CLOSED, hooked up the hose and turned it on.  Water started spewing everywher, even after i ran around and opened the valve!  I am hoping I didn't damage anything!)

Yes, 12v outlets are handy.. and very easy to add. We have added two.

Welcome.  The A/C noise is one of the biggest problems, I agree.

I think we all agree that the Coleman A/C units are much quieter than the Dometics.  I wonder if when you order one, you could specify a Coleman.  I have mentioned before that our 11K BTU Coleman is much quieter than the 13.5 BTU Dometic we had in our last TT.  Or, can you order one that is A/C ready and have the dealer install a Coleman?  Just asking....

I spent a night in a hotel last week (business trip) and the AC in that room was far louder than the one in our Pod.  And I couldn't set it for constant fan.

Maybe that's part of why it doesn't bother us much.. between the wife and I, we have 1000's of nights in hotels..

If I ordered a new pod I would definitely order it w/o A/C, then install the Polar Cub.

I don't see why FR would not be willing to install a plain roof vent with a 110 VAC line tucked in the ceiling at its side.

We installed a 12v outlet in the entertainment center cabinet. Had to do some outlet plate trimming to fit it between the two existing plates, but it works fine. Seems to be on the same 30amp fuse as the taillights and a few other items. You can find the wire easily since the antenna amplifier is powered off it.

Most manufacturers prep all of their campers for A/C whether it is installed at the factory or not.  This includes framing out the location, marking the corners so you know where to cut, and running wiring for the thermostat and electric.  This would be a good question for FR!

I agree.  I did not think about the thermostat wiring since all my Coleman units in the past and present (excluding motor homes) have had the thermostat contained within the ceiling unit, and controlled by a rotary control next to the main function control.  This being said, my experience only goes through 2010.  Perhaps the newer trailer models are different.  Regardless, pre-installed thermostat wiring is a great idea.

The only advantage of the loud AC is that we could not hear our pugs snoring!

Same thing with our Bostons! Also drowns out the drunks down the way.

I thought the loud AC was to drown out the generator and the idling diesel big rigs when overnighting in the WalMart parking lot!
Seriously though every RV I've ever owned has had a loud AC-  I think it is just the nature of trying to move lots of air through relatively small outlets.

I have pondered several oddities on the r-pod-   the black tank flush being on the side opposite to where water is available in any standard RV dump station (that happens to have it, many don't)  -  well that has to win first prize for stupid designConfused

The new 178's have the backwater flush on the correct side.

my late '14 (built January 31st 2014) has the blackwater flush on the curb side of the camper. They moved that to the street side? I too wish I had that.

I forgot to open the outlet on the other side, when I turned on the water hose. The pressure ruptured the seal (or something), and now it sprays all over the place unless I hold the hose just  right.  I'm hoping I can fix it, somehow, or replace it.  Should I have used the pressure-reducer?

Do you know your water pressure level, it should be in the 50-60 psi range.  A pressure reduction valve is always a good idea.  I know an RV park that is in a valley, the water tank is on a hill, their pressure is 125 psi.  You never know what a campground/park will have.

I really would love a 12V outlet. How do you add one?

Forgetting to open the outlet would not cause this-  if the outlet was closed you'd just fill up the tank and eventually have water coming out the roof vent..
Have you checked to make sure the rubber washer is in the fitting?   Same as in a garden hose female fitting.
The hose to the tank also might have a kink if water is spraying out with a good rubber washer.

There should be a washer with a screen present.

The fans in the furnace and a/c are both annoyingly loud; but, I think that's almost unavoidable in a small camper. In our homes, the fans are in another room and/or on another floor. In a small camper, they're only a few inches or feet away.

I'm not sure how it is on other models; but on our 173, the black water and gray water have two separate drains. It is an absolute pain to have to hook up twice to dump, and it makes things a litte trickier to park the camper in just the right position to avoid having to move for the 2nd dump.

I have always wanted to try one of these Coleman A/C units, but unfortunately I have never had the chance.  I have seen them for sale and working on videos, but never had the pleasure to sleep with one on.  How well do these actually work?  Besides the noise, arethey really worth it?

When you mention water spewing every where, was it inside or outside?
