Hi. We are from Kirkland WA and are on our Maiden voyage with our 2014, rPod 177. Not sure I'm posting properly but didn't see any other way to post under an existing topic. My apologies in advance if I'm doing it wrong. So far we are loving our pod. We are at the John Wayne RV park outside of Sequim, WA. We are towing with a Toyota Sienna van. We are grateful for this forum and have already learned much from all of you. I will try to post some pictures. Looking forward to participating in the forum! Erin and Dan

How does the sienna do?  I drive a sienna, but my husband drives a Toyota tundra, so that is what we have been using.  I would like to get a hitch for my sienna so I could pull with that. We also have a 177. Do you have any thing extra on the Sienna?

When we bought our Sienna we got the towing package which, if I recall properly, comes with a heavier radiator, a cooling system for the transmission, heavier shocks and brakes. You should look this up to be sure-it's been 9 years! When we bought the rPod the dealer swapped our class I hitch for a class II hitch and added a trailer brake signal system and anti sway bar. It seemed to do just fine! The only bummer was that the pod plus the Sienna total around 35 ft. in length which made for two very expensive ferry crossings!   The rate goes way up after 30 ft.

Hello everyone. Just bought a 2014 178. This is our first rv. We have an eight month old and did not see an enjoyable tent camping experience. We are learning about this new type of camping for us. We have had our r-pod for two weeks, but have not taken it out yet. I needed to get my 2000 GMC Sierra ready to tow. Everything is good to go now and looking forward to next weekend. We are excited about our recent purchase and learning all we can about our r-pod. I want to thank you all for the information that I have read on this forum. Happy camping,
Kevin

Welcome Erin and Dan. Wish we were in WA with you! I'm from West Seattle, left for many years, returned to live on Finn Hill just above Juanita Beach (have some Spud for me!). Built a house in Bellingham - then for many reasons have ended up near Austin, TX. It's very hot here in the summer so we bought our 176 to allow us to go anywhere we'd like without worrying about costs of rentals and finding places that take a dog. We'll probably be back on the west coast next summer. Enjoy your pod and the wonderful weather and Dungeness crab!

I started with the prodigy p3 brake controller. I installed this before picking up the trailer. While towing the trailer the two miles home from the dealership I broke one bump stop off the rear of my truck. This was not a comforting feeling. I should note that I have a heavy leer canopy on the truck with some stuff in the back as well. After this experience I bought Firestone ride-rite airbags, new shocks, and a reese weight distribution hitch(600 pound bars). All this maybe overkill but that is the kind of guy I am. I also flushed the transmission fluid as well as changed the filter in the tranny. I keep good tires and brakes on my vehicles so I should be all set. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Helloooooo Rpod owners. My other pea and I just bought our very first camper ever and on top of that IT'S AN R-POD. WooHooStarThumbs UpClown  the only bummer is we can't get it until next week. I feel like a 6 year old on Christmas Eve. We both grew up camping with tent/pop up campers and can't wait for our first weekend away. I'd love to hear more from campers in Arkansas or Oklahoma and let us know your favorites camping spots. Great forum, we've learned so much

Hi Erin and Dan (and any others in WA),

We're in Kenmore and are shopping for an R-Pod. Would you mind telling us where you bought yours from and how the experience was? Also, if you don't mind, how much under MSRP you paid?

Thanks!

Hi
We have not yet purchased an R Pod but have narrowed it down to our TT of choice! We are very uncertain as the best way to buy. First thought RV Show but have been doing a lot of online research and finding dealers within a weekend driving distance. Even a so called Wholesale Dealer? I reach out to the group for any suggestionsSmile

Thanks

Decide the model you want and get quotes from Couch's.  If you're willing to do a weekend drive that'd be a perfect place to start your search.

Welcome.  After you print out a copy of Couch's offer, take it to your local dealer and tell them Couch's is their competition.  Work 'em.  Also replace that mattress based on others suggestions.  Safe Travels.

That's what I did with my local dealer.  After negotiations they wouldn't go below $14,000 (down from $18k).  Pulled out the printout and immediately they dropped within a few hundred dollars.  I paid around $12,500 with all options.

Hello everyone, Mark & Vicki here from south central PA.  We just purchased our 2013 R-178 and love it. We're still getting it ready to take out.  It seems with family obligations, and other commitments we're a little slow getting out in the woods.  I've been reading all the forum topics to get the best ideas for storage, ground clearance, mattress, r-dome erection directions etc. and have found a wealth of information.  This forum is great! I'm sure I will be spending alot of time reading everything I can.  Are there any Podders here in the south central PA area? Smile

Good day,

First post to the forum...ordered a new 172 on Oct. 1st. from a dealer in Ohio. We are from Windsor Ont Canada. Looking forward to picking it up in the next 4-6 weeks. I have been reading posts, are trying to figure everything out. This is our first trailer...we were tent campers...without my wife and kids (3yr old & 6month old), I prefer backcounty kayak camping.
I think we got a great deal on the Pod...fully loaded with risers, rdome and bike rack. Got them to toss in the E2 as well. For now we are towing with our 2008 Jeep Liberty, with a brake controller installed. Hopefully we can get a big vehicle next year.

Any newbie advice? Things to look out for?

Don't fret.  While selling Class A diesel pushers I managed to back one into a tree, while viewing the rear camera display.  When they indicate that the object is closer than it looks in the view, believe them.  Had to replace the entire rear cap of an RV.  Fun times.  Safe Travels.

Welcome, and congrats on the Pod purchase!  Best advice I can give upfront ... make sure you know where the wife and kids are before you start backing up into a campsite.  View behind you is limited to the sides, and really only one side when you are turning and backing at the same time.

Welcome!  My best advice is to read this forum often.  Most of the posters have "been there, done that, and have the t-shirt".  I have found, as a newbie myself, that using the search features on the web site will yield a lot of answers.

Happy podding!
