alex & linda here from new bern nc, we are interested in a few of the POD floorplans, so thought we'd come visit for awhile (and maybe ask some questions?). our last camper was a Coleman PUP which we enjoyed while the boys were growing up.
great site you have here btw, thx for letting us hang out!

glad to have you folks along for the ride. there is a floorplan for just about every type of person. you're sure to find one you'd like.
before we bought our Pod i spent a long time on the PuP and HuP forums, was a really great crowd there as well.

Welcome. If you have questions, the answers are in here, good luck!
If you like the outdoors, the garage models keep you put of the camper except to sleep. That's why we have it.
Enjoy.

Welcome. Our last camper was a Coleman Grandview SP. A lot of podders are former popup owners since you can tow it with the same TV (tow vehicle). Personally I didn't want to tow a big 27-footer either.
Ask away, someone here will have an answer - or three.

You have probably already looked at this site, but just in case. If you are looking at used R-Pods, my model, the 173, is discontinued but is another one of the lightest models.

thanks for the welcomes... thanks Bob, yes we've looked at the site quite a lot. I think we need to go visit a dealer and both of us crawl around in the 171, 177, and the 178,

oh contraire Georgia, your tow vehicle has the same Honda innards as mine... so I'm positive your knowledge of how the pair is working for you will be very valuable information!
... so from your experience, how's the Ridgeline and the 178 together?

Much better after adding E2 WDH. It gets me there, but mostly in 4th gear, about 12 mpg.

yea, I figured to have the "tow" selector on most of the time - which would keep it in 4th gear a lot. but 4th gear is plenty tall enough for 60 mph, so no concerns there. have you run the team through the smokey mountains yet?

One small point: Unless the Ridgeline has a different 5-speed transmission than the Pilot, both 4th and 5th gears are overdrive. The "towing" gear, D3, is about 1:1. You cannot lock the transmission in 4th, but you can lock out the overdrives by using D3.

You are correct Charlie. I have not had to lock in D3. I find the rev's much too high. It has kicked down there at times, but we are usually in D4.

I had to go look, you're correct. So it looks like I have a D3 passing trigger on the hand grip and a D3 gear "recommend tow" shift position (which I assumed was a D4 selector) on the console... book says only use D on level roads.
