We are looking forward to picking up our new R-Pod 178 on Thursday and getting ready for another season of camping at our provincial parks here in Ontario (and venturing further afield).

The 178's length will still let us get into some our favourite camping sites and the inclusion of the U-shaped dinette over the 177 will make life more comfortable when our younger 14-year old daughter decides to join us.

Our older daughter is off to Laurentian University in Sudbury, Ontario this fall and I can see many road trips in our future.

Cheers,

David

We just picked up our 178 last Thursday. So far no issues. The extra 16" with the bigger dinette has been great for the kids. Enjoy!

Thanks for the welcome everyone!

I forgot to mention that we also have the almost obligatory 2-year old Golden Retriever (Lily).  I was going to have her sleep where the table goes but that won't work when we use the dinette as a bed for our daughter.  I guess we will have to follow everyone else's lead and step over Lily in the middle of the night.

(Bodie55 - maybe you can help me decide whether a sleeping bag works best on the dinette bed, or whether an extra foam pad and/or sheets and a blanket would work?)

Anyway, we have picked Voyageur Provincial Park, half-way to Montreal, as our first test in the middle of July.  Nice easy 1-hour drive on a 4-lane highway so everyone can pass me.  And a pull-through camping site with electricity so that I don't have to back in (and have Liz wave frantically at me as I do so!) and can test out all the features of the R-Pod.

Cheers,

David

I put a square dog bed (which by fluke is an exact fit) under the table for my border collie.  She likes the enclosed space and will sit there while we're moving around in the trailer.  The dog bed has a bonus of being a warm spot to put bare feet while eating breakfast.

As you say, when the table is used as a bunk, there isn't enough room.  My dog tends to curl up at the r-pod's door or right in front of the queen bed.

Thanks Outbound.  I'll give it a try.

BTW, I will be driving past Oshawa en route to Scarborough for the Robbie Soccer Tournament in Scarborough next weekend sans R-Pod.

I'll give you a wave from the 401!

David, welcome to the world of podding.  Did you get your pod at travel-mor, that's where we got ours.  Try Murphy's Point Prov. park.  pull through sites, just south of Perth about 10min.  We will be there this Saturday coming home Wed.  Its close by really nice park, also try Charleston Lake prov. park no pull throughs but again nice park with lots of hiking.

We have had our 178 for about a month, and I love it, we downsized from a larger hybrid travel trailer now that our four kids are older and no longer want to camp with dear old mom and dad. This July we are taking the pod down to Florida to visit our son who is in the Marines, and the other three kids want to see their brother of course, so we will be squeezing as many of us as we can in the pod and drawing straws for the tent.

We have our two younger kids (8&4) on the dinette with sleeping bags. I did put a waterproof mattress pad and fitted sheet over the cushions for protection. No topper for them as they are small and lightweight. Our teen is sleeping on the floor on a camping mat. In front of the fridge might be a good spot for a dog - out of the doorway and access to toilet.

Hello ron_whitt,

Sorry that we won't be at Murphys Point this weekend.  It is actually our favourite Provincial Park.  Our preferred site was 147 in Fallows but it doesn't allow travel trailers.  We typically went on the long weekend before school and took in the Perth Fair and picked up some local corn to boil.

We have booked Murphys Point for mid-September and will be in 61 in Hoggs Bay.

We also went back to Charleston Lake last year and discovered that they have an area away from the beach where dogs are allowed to swim off leash.  Needless to say we are heading back there at the end of August.

Coupled with Bonnechere at the beginning of August and Grundy Lake near Sudbury for the Thanksgiving Weekend we don't have many weekends left ;-)

If this schedule doesn't give the R-Pod a work-out, I don't know what will.

BTW, I hear that there was a mini-convention of R-Pods last year at Murphy's Point.  Sounds like a plan.  Maybe there are more of us in Ontario than I thought.  (Yes, we are getting ours from Travel-Mor).

Cheers,

David

Yippee!  Picked up our 178 today.

Would love to include a photo with my online signature but I am not sure how to do that.  Could someone please help.  And remind me how to re-size the photo so that it fits.

Many thanks,

David

Looks good.  I like this color scheme, although I'm not thrilled that the accent color is black, especially the stuff on the roof.  RVs use white roofs for a reason.

I think the color/accent scheme is great, similar to the 2013 scheme......but even better!

Survived and enjoyed our first weekend away to Voyageur Provincial Park, Ontario in our new 2014 R-Pod 178.

The only modification we made before we left was to put an Ikea Lycksele Havet mattress on top of the queen bed.  (Another poster suggested replacing the queen mattress with a Lycksele Lovas mattress but it didn't suit us).

A highlight of the weekend was to drop in to see ron_whitt in Chesterville on the way home.  (I'm on the left in front of our 178 with Lily, our golden retriever.  Ron is on the right with his 177.)

Many thanks for the hospitality, Ron.  See you at Murphys Point Provincial Park next year!

Glad you stopped in Dave.  Nice to meet you and your family.  Looking forward to hooking up at a camp site sometime.  Maybe we can get Kelli M. from Kingston to join us at Murphy's point or Charleston lake and have a mini rally ourselves.  We met Kelli at Murphy's point  this year.  As always  RPOD owners are super people to meet.    Enjoy your new pod and happy travels.
