We just brought home our new 178 HRE R-Pod and have decided after setting up the R-Dome (for 90 minutes) that we will more than likely not use it. It has not been used – still in the original box - and fits the 1/2" track. Color is new green/gold. $300 plus $25 shipping – or if you live close to Bellingham, WA – we can try to connect.

Just curious.  Why do you and others not want there R-dome?  We use ours all the time and feel its a great rain/sun/protecting cover.  Moses loves to sleep out there.  Just wondering what others feel are the negatives of the R-dome. It does take about 10 minutes or so to put up, so it's not super quick.   We also bring a portable pop-up canopy.

Just diff'rent strokes, I'm sure.

We also use the r-dome every time. In fact, it was the definitive
selling point for our buying the r-pod. The pups love it, we basically
live in it. Set-up is down to a science. Re-packing is the only
tedious chore.

The reason we’ve decided not to keep the R-dome has nothing to do with the set-up or convenience.  Between the both of us, we had it up in less than 15 minutes!  After tent trailer camping for over 9 years, my husband and I are really looking forward to the “ease” of having a hard-top trailer – we both love the convenience of just pulling into a campsite and immediately being able enjoy that first glass of wine :)  We have no puppies –Son 1 graduates college this week –Son 2 graduated high school last week (leaves for the Marine Corp in 49 days L) – so the extra space isn’t as needed as it was when the boys were younger – we can always use the separate shade canopy if weather turns iffy!

Trust me, I completely understand the ease of pulling up into a site and in less than 10 minutes (excluding the r-dome) you are ready for R&R&W!!!  Good luck and much respect to your son for joining the Marines.  hogone

Do you have the "new" track (wider) or the narrow track.?

It is the "new" larger track -- however - the R-Dome is sold! Just returned from the UPS!

I am very interested. I have 2 collies with whom I will be traveling. Why was it so hard to put up? If I am in a 'patient space' I can usually do OK on those kind of things.  Was it just too much of a pain to bother with? Will you get a free-standing tent type thing instead? I have a 178 but don't know for sure if it is a 1/2 inch track.

Hogone,

Think it's just personal to owners. I gave mine away. I don't want to set up my hard trailer and then set up a tent. If it's raining I'm going inside and watch a movie, I sit in tents enough. Ours didn't wear well and the quality was less than expected, if I wanted more space, I would have bought a bigger trailer. I had issues with tying it down in slab sites, more ropes and guidelines. For me personally it was a botheration to set up, not a benefit. I have a visor now, which is easy and gives me some protection from sun and rain. Neither can be up in severe weather, and I didn't want to be up in the middle of night to take down the tent. No disrespect for RDome lovers, but it wasn't for me, or my wife. I have a portable pop up canopy, have more shade and it's portable. Between visor and canopy I'm happy. I also like the interaction with other campers as they walk, I didn't want to be isolated in an additional add-on.
