We brought home our new 178 on Monday (my Birthday!) and really love the r-pod.  We are stepping up from a very nice 2007 Fleetwood Element Graphite (it's fer sale!) popup that we enjoyed, but aren't really digging the pop-up RV lifestyle anymore.  It's tough to get away from the campground noise, thunderstorms, two weeks of preparation, having to dry out the tenting if it (enevitably) rains), loading and unloading during setup and tear-down that comes with the popup.

My wife is having a ball getting it ready for the first trip, to Cape Cod MA next week.

Star We have a 2014 178 also!  Our first trip is coming up in 2 weeks.  We've been yard camping from time to time, getting used to it and making it our own.  I've had the fridge running on propane for the last week and a half and it doesn't seem to be using any gas.  Starting to look funny at the gauge.  hehe

Have a great time making it your own.  I recommend checking out the mods forum to see what others have done to theirs.

Welcome!  We felt the same way at the end with our popup.

JCMoran, you can run the fridge for a month on a full tank of propane if you don't use propane for anything else.

Welcome! Good times ahead. It usually takes a few trips to get your own "routine" down. A lot of what you learned with the pop up will come in handy. I hear you about the pop up. I loved it when we first bought it. Used a pop up off and on for 16 years. When we bought the pod I was so ready to give all that up. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pod. It's like the pop up without all the tent trailer jazz. We still enjoy cooking/socializing outside so the pod is perfect. This forum is a great place to trade info and hints or complaining and bragging. We all love pictures, eh hem...

Forest River emailed me and said to call the parts manager at (574) 642-3119 Ext 209. that he is 99% sure there are covers to fit the larger pods.

Let us know who you talk to Linda and what they say.

When we bought our 181g I called about a cover and they didn't have them large enough for our models back then.  If the case has changed now I'd be very glad to know!

I called Forest River/r-pod and spoke to the parts department. They do make them to fit 178s and 180s models. They quoted $400, plus I imagine shipping costs. I talked to my dealer, and they got one in and said it was $575. They then said they would match the $400 price. But, that's a little high for me. Still deciding on my options. We might just add on to our large barn/garage.

Glad to hear we have covers now.  Guess it took them a year or two after the 18x series before they got them ready to sell.

But $400.  Meh, I think I'll pass.

Doug,

Two questions to a senior poster?

How do you include the photo down by  your information that appears in all of your posts?  Is that an admin thing?

Secondly, how do you replace the avatar photo with one of your choosing?

Thanks in advance for your expertise for this "newbie".

Someone just asked me a day ago so I'll copy what I sent them:

First you need to upload the picture using the File Manager in your Control Panel (look for it in the upper left corner of every page). Once it is uploaded you'll see a link for your picture on the right side of the page in the File Manager, next to where it says Download File, you'll need to copy that link (right-click and select Copy Link).

Next in your Control Panel go into the Edit Profile section and scroll down to edit your signature. Below is an example of the code that creates my signature. The link you copied in the last step will need to go between the two IMG tags. TAKE NOTE, I have added an extra space inside of each IMG tag which you will need to remove. I had to add that so you could see the code and not the actual picture.

As for your Avatar, go into your profile in the Control Panel and scroll about 2/3 of the way down, you'll see a link that says Upload Avatar.

You might want to get a long, narrow picture so it is all visible at one time.

@GA_Rpod178

I don't see how you tow your Pod with your TV facing that way but that's impressive!

Travis,

It was, as they say in the political world I work in, a "photo opportunity".  Better pics to follow when we actually get her hooked up.

Actually with the front receiver I added to my TV I really could tow my pod that way.  I'll have to try humping it around the yard that way one time to see if I like it better.  I'm thinking better maneuverability but worse visibility.

I have moved trailers around with a bobcat facing that way, ball on the blade.. it's kind of tricky at first, because the steering wheels are so close to the hitch.. reacts way faster than you are used to..
