love our new 171, but if u could make one improvement it would be remove bathroom because it is quite useless, too small, you could put another door next to the one under the bed and just use a portapoty, or better yet put a reg toilot right where it is and plumb it into black water tank and make a box aroung the toilot with a double hinged lid on top and front of toilot, put a cushion on it to sit on when looking in fridge, for more privacy install shower curtain around area, qhen not using the toilot, open curtain and have walking room by sink and stove, and you wont be spending your vacation waiting for someone to move so you can get to another area of camper

Welcome.  I partly agree with this, I made a similar suggestion a few years ago based on the wet bath we had in our Coleman popup.  I wouldn't want to get rid of the bathroom, but the space could be greatly openend up if the hard walls of the bathroom only extended up to just above the toilet seat height.  Above that a wrap-around shower curtain would work for showers and for "privacy" (certainly no less privacy than the existing door).  The soft curtain on 3 sides would allow for much more elbow room than the 4 hard walls.  All 4 sides were shower curtain in our popup and I really liked it.  Roll the curtain up to the ceiling (what we did in our popup) and the space opens up between uses.  You could put a hard top over the hard walls, this was standard in our popup but I eventually ripped that lid off because it got in the way.  You couldn't use it as a shelf because then you had to move the stuff each time you wanted to use the bathroom.  Maybe a roll-top would work, like a roll-top writing desk.

Have to agree.. the slide in the 177 makes ALL the difference.

But.. honestly.. if that is what you want the interior to be like.. "make it so". I do like Doug's idea of "soft walls".. don't think it would really be that hard to do.

honestly i like the 177 or 178, slide definately opens it up a couple of feet; as far as potentials issues with the slide that I here about, I'll deal with that; maintenance is the key;  and the shower, more than roomy!!!; Pam loves the bathroom

As said make it yours.  Personally I have become accustomed to the small head and wouldn't want it different.  I am full sized (6', 275) and can do anything in the little head that it was made for.  I did have to leave the door open the first couple of times, but now that is fine.  And I want both the toilet and the shower because at times we camp where there are neither available.  To each their own.

It wouldn't be too hard - not easy, but not hard.  Move the shower plumbing to the level of the toilet seat, move the wall switch for the porch light lower, move the light switch for the bathroom light and thermostat.  Then cut all three walls just above the toilet seat and pull everything out above the line.  Some finish work on the raw edges, run a shower curtain track all the way around and mount a hook from the ceiling for the shower head.  Easy.  Big smile

They announced the slide-out models the week after we picked up our 171.  The fate of being an early adopter.  Embarrassed

Considering it!  Add it to "the list".  Might come after we get our kitchen done in the house - which hasn't started yet.

I have an even earlier 171 Custom ordered from Forest River with the white Cabinets. We bought off the plans never seen a 171 before we took delivery. I'm glad not to have the slide but we spend most of the time outside anyway. Sometimes wished the bed was up front and they had the table in the rear (Like the MPG Models did) but its great for the 2 of us.

I agree about swapping the table and bed.

The bathroom is tiny for me....but I did manage to "comfortably" squeeze in and had just enough room to use the shower this past weekend while camping....from a former tent camper...having a shower is an AMAZING change for us lol.  We really use the toilet for emergency use only; primarily for my wife and son....it’s nice to have it even with our strict #1 only rule, less those emergency situations.

I am at the stage in life where I need to go at 2AM (sometimes 3).  No rules in our Pod.  We use it when and how it works for us.  That is why we bought it.

I too am a geezer and used to get up in the dark to relieve myself.  This is not the forum to discuss this but personally I suggest you see a Urologist who will prescribe meds to aleviate this concern.  Aging is, what it is.  Better than the alternative.  For all of you young bucks, take a lesson.  Your next.  Safe Travels.

LOVE my bathroom in Pod. Better than a tent. Had Large motor coaches too. When boon docking I only use it for closet. But full hookups, the small size just fits my needs.\
You are so funny!.. sitting on a cushion to look into the frig.
if it got any bigger it would not be a small unit to haul around.

I just bought my 171. I specifically wanted NO SLIDE. I have had three rigs with slides and three rigs that had slide leaks at one time or another. My Itasca Diesel Pusher even had slide topper awnings, and it leaked too. My decision to downsize and simplify even had me looking at teardrops.. but I could not go that far. So the 171 was perfect. I am a big guy 6'4". DW is 5"4" we do not live in the camper. We sleep and freshen up. She showers, I go to bathhouse. I have used the bath and it is possible, but not as roomy as the bath house.

Your reasoning for the 171 is pretty much the same as our's. I can't imagine how the shower can work for you though at 6'4". I'm 6' and I feel like the fantastic fan is going to give me a haircut at the same time.

granted I have only had the hogpod for a year the shower has come in handy when doing some nice remote camping; a quick refresher is always nice; as far as the slide no leakage but one issue i realized; woke up one morning in February to 4 inches of slushy snow; slide out covered; I realized this prior to bringing it in and attempted to get some of it off but brought alot in with it; spent about 15 minutes scooping it up from the inside; a fly/canopy would be nice for this situation

Agree with the comments about the 171. We downsized from a R Vision 26 QBS with a slide and full bath. Initially looked at a T@B which was well designed but couldn't stand up in it at 6'. Found a used 2012 177 at a dealer 2 hours from home and almost bought it but then checked out a new 2014 171 on clearance at the same dealer and it had everything we were looking for. Wanted as simple a unit as possible after having owned a larger TT with all the amenities. Found that, despite the tight quarters, the 171 had more storage in the kitchen than the 177. It's the best size for camping in Ontario's provincial parks where the number of sights for larger RV's are limited and in high demand. Happy camping.

sounds as if you have found the one YOU needed. I was camping alone and not very tall either. We have had slide outs in motor coaches, and the husband was always waiting for the problems that could come with them(and never did), so when I went out on my own, while it might have been nice to have the little extra room after stopping, I did not want to perhaps have a problem that I could not deal with. I love my little EscapePod and I hope the couple that has it is really having a good time. Happy Camping!

Ontario Parks only measures the size of the trailer without the hitch so even the 178 can fit in the "under 18 ft" category. That was key for our purchase two years ago as we love our parks. (I think that only leaves the 179 as in the next size category)

Thanks for the info about trailer size. I was always on the lookout for pull through sites with the bigger trailer. This will open up more options as the R Pod is actually shorter than a tent trailer we had several years ago when it was set-up.

The coach size on the 178, 179, 181, 182 and the new 183 are all the same 17 feet, with 36" to the ball. The 178 & 179 you add 18" for the spare.
