Am confused...

Is this about how you hate your dishes?

Or your dishes hate you?

Or..

Maybe..

Dish storage?

lol. In our 177, above the sink, paper plates and red solo cups. I don't like to do any more dishes than I have to when camping.

Mark and Sue:  thanks so much for the reply to the "non-question".  My husband was trying to research the R-pod forum on our iPad and screwed it up (don't tell him I said that).  Actually you did answer our question.  We find that even pretty small dinner plates don't fit in the cabinet over the sink either flat or standing on end.  I think we're going to look for some that are smaller than 9 inches so they will fit.  We do use paper plates for sandwiches and things but, since we are planning to do a cross country trip, we will probably use regular dishes if we can find some that will fit.  I have to weigh trying to be "green" against the extra water we will use washing dishes!

If you are going to be out for a long period, and like cooking on the road/at camp.. May I suggest a set of "nesting pots"? We have Cuisenart.. love them.

http://www.chefsresource.com/cuisinart-stowaway-cookware.html - Quick link   You may have to look around.. also a gas stove heat diffuser or "simmer plate" thing is handy.

Also.. welcome to the forum, and since you live in NC.. there is a r-pod rally coming up there in June.. Come meat some fellow podders..

Welcome.  I was wondering at first, too...

We're taking the opposite approach for our upcoming 3-week tour of the southern US.  We always wash dishes and are all-around pretty "green" Dead, but for our upcoming trip I'm conceding to using paper cups/plates/bowls.

Usually, I've got a pot or a frypan or a kitchen knife or BBQ utensils or something else that has to be washed anyway.  So, for the sake of washing a few plates and cups, I just wash everything.

Lunch dishes, particularly if lunch is just a sandwich or something simple, are left to wash with the dinner dishes.

We use a wire picnic caddy similar to the one shown here. The cups go into the square cubicles and the plates stand up in the long opening. It all stores in the cabinet below the sink and the plates and glasses stay secure when traveling.

I store my dishes in one of the drawers and the pots under the sink.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions.  I'm sure we'll have more questions as we get our new (to us) r-pod ready for traveling.  We're hoping to do a couple of short, local trips in April and early May to figure out our storage and how to do everything and then leave in late May for a 6 week trip.  Would love to go to the rally in NC and meet other r-podders but I'm afraid it won't fit in with our plans.  Of course, plans can always change!Tongue

We started with plastic plates and cups and have largely gone to paper and other disposable things.  We store them in the drawers.

We too have the nesting pots by Cuisinart in the pod permanently and love them.  Depending on the length of the trip and the menu planner for, we may also bring a Thermo-pot (a stockpot that fits into its own thermos sleeve so that is behaves like an off-grid crockpot) or even a cast iron pot.

For dishes, we have a set of nice melamineware dinner plates, salad plate and bowls as well as a large stack of Chinet paper plates and 4 rattan plate supports. We also have real (cheap Ikea) utensils and a stack of disposables.

We have a 152 and the nesting pot set goes on the top shelf under the stove, along with a http://amazon.com/Camco-43516-Mini-Dish-Pan/dp/B000TRBOK4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1365603942&sr=8-1&keywords=rv+sink+tub - Camco mini dish pan and http://amazon.com/Camco-43511-Mini-Dish-Drainer/dp/B000BUOSGG/ref=pd_bxgy_auto_text_y - Camco mini dish drainer .  Both these fit perfectly into the pod sink and are useful for just carrying things in and out of the pod and for containing any spills during transit.

Depending on the camp ground facilities and depending on our mood, we have the option of using real plates or paper plates :)

If you prefer using large 11" dinner plates, try looking at soft-sided coolers to store them in. The padded coolers for pyrex baking dishes are long and flat and can be easily stored in the area above the microwave.

We were also frustrated that 9" plates wouldn't fit in the upper cabinet.  We found oval-shaped plates at Walmart last week.  They're pretty thin, but they're light and reusable and came with a nice-sized small bowl.  They can be microwaved and they fit really well in the cabinet over the sink.

We also have some of those very thin plastic oval plates.  Seem to work fine and don't have to worry about them breaking.  I would also suggest getting a plastic bin that fits inside of the sink.  We fill it with soapy water, wash the dishes and use the sink to rinse them in.  We store the bin inside the sink while traveling.  Makes it easier to wash and rinse.  Safe Travels.

Thanks for all these suggestions.  I have taken a lot of your advice -- ordered a set of nesting pots (the Cuisinart ones aren't available any more but I got some on Amazon - Magma brand), found some rectangular corelle dishes at Walmart that just fit in the cabinet and will also carry paper plates.  I like the idea of the small basin to fit in the sink -- I will look for one.  Thanks again.

I second a removable wash basin which fits inside the sink.  I got a rubber one with big handles at Ikea.  Good for dish washing on normal trips, and for winter trips I've used it to catch all of my water (hand washing and tooth brushing) so I can chuck it in the bushes.

We too use a plastic basin, put than I had to find a stainless steel sink to put it in.
