Which would you choose and why?

A new 2012 172 with warranty for $14,000
                       or
A barely (says three times) used 2010 for $9,800?

I can't speak of the difference in the rpods, but I can tell you that you can buy a 3 rd party service agreement ( like a warranty ) for like 1500 that has coverage on almost everything. Xtraride is an extremely good product from a company called Protective. In fact the coverage covers your appliances longer than the manufacture ( depending on how long your buy your warranty for). Ask your dealer about it. I bought one for my 2010 rpod. Just make sure you understand what you are buying.

If it has only been used a few times, there is only one question in my mind.  Would you rather give the dealer an extra $4,200 or would you rather keep it in your pocket.  Seems to me that $4,200 would buy an awful lot of repairs if they were needed.  That would be my suggestion.  Safe Travels.

We bought a used 2010 that we saw on Craigslist. We have had no regrets whatsoever! They had used the RPod as a summer getaway,,,at just one campsite where it remained for two months. Camper Bob has a great point,,,use the money you save for any repairs. Or for your first major adventure!

Welcome.  I agree - personally I would buy the used pod and not worry about a 3rd party warranty.

Thanks guys! That was my gut feeling but my husband liked the idea of the warranty with new. I'll show him what everyone said. :)

Since the 2013 models are out, you may be able to negotiate one heck of a deal on the new 2012.  We bought our 2012 RP-171 last October and it had been on the dealers lot since the previous February ... they were very willing to negotiate on it just to get it off their lot.  So I would say to take that into consideration as well, and if hubby wants new then maybe ya'll can get that price down more.

It surprises me that the pod was on the dealer's lot so long. The dealer we purchased our pod from said he has trouble keeping them in stock. That seems to be true since I've read on these forums where some buyers have had to wait weeks/months for delivery of a new pod. Well worth the wait, though.

We were surprised as well, but had been watching it online for half the year before pulling the trigger.  They kept getting in and selling 177's and 180 series models, but for whatever reason this one just sat there.

Made for one heck of a deal for us!

Banana, I don't know about the 2012 172, but we have a 2011 RP-172 we bought new for $11200.00. I don't know if there is any difference in quailty between them, I hope not. We have never taken ours back to the dealer for even one problem, not one loose screw. I own an A C DELCO tech shop and work on autos and equipment on a daily basis. I did take out an additional 2 year (3 total ) warranty on the 3 way fridge as I know they are expensive to replace and I don't have any experience working on those products. Every thing else most of us can handle with the help of this great forum and the expansive knowledge of the reader base herein. I would go used, pocket the $4200.00 bucks and use that as money for campin sites. have fun, go for it.

I could go either way.. but 14k for a '12 172 sounds a bit high, is that the window sticker, or have you talked to the dealer about actual sale price yet? If that is what they want to get it off the lot.. to much.
