I think a get together for both states would work if it were held in the southern part of Georgia.  I would go.

Now if you were to hold it in the northern part of GA we may be able to look into it!

Lets hear some suggestions.

There are only a few state parks in south Georgia. Stephen Foster at the Okefenokee Swamp, Crooked river on the coast and Reed Bingham. The Okefenokee is nice but I haven't been there in years. Don't know anything about the other two. There are some beautiful north Georgia parks like Cloudland Canyon (upper northwest).

The only reason I said southern Georgia is to entice Florida people to go out of state.  If it is too far north you might loose some.  Just a thought.

There are two nice state parks just above Macon Ga. Indian Springs and High Falls. Seen both but haven't camped there. This location should be within 6 hours of most of the southeast.

In the New Orleans area there are some great campgrounds just North of Lake Pontchartrain, and in South Mississippi.  I will come and bring my jambalaya pot....

Good to know, we'll be in NO this summer for a day or two as we tour the south.

Just came from New Orleans. Stayed in the KOA west of New Orleans. The spaces are tiny, the roads are not in great shape, but the bathrooms are clean and the people are very nice. They offer a free shuttle into the French Quarter, which VIPs very convenient.

West KOA is in a better area than the East one.  But, people come there to "base camp" into the French Quarter.  If you want bigger sites and ambiance, stay across the lake at Fairview State Park, or Fontainebleau State Park.  These parks give a 50% discount for the Federal Senior Pass.  So you can camp for around $10 /night with electricity and water ... some sites with sewer.

It is a 35  mile drive across the worlds longest bridge into the French Quarter.

I love driving that bridge.  So, are we going to do this or not?

Its looking likely that we'll be in town all day on July 11th and 12th (starting the evening of the 10th and leaving the morning of the 13th).  My wife is pushing for us to stay at the west KOA right now...

We heard there was going to be a roundup at Raccoon Holler in Jefferson County, NC the weekend of June 15.  We made reservations via email but have not called to follow up to learn whether it is still on.

The Campground is located off the Blue Ridge Parkway east of Boone, NC.

Welcome to the forum. I went to grad school at Clemson so I know lakes Keowee and Jocassee well.

That roundup sounds like fun but I don't think we can make it. I'll be teaching a photography class at the John C Campbell Folk school the week of June 9 through the 15th.
