Hello Fellow Podders!
Well for Christmas I got a new HP Pavilion g7 laptop that has Windows 8 on it! LOVE the Laptop!!!! Took a little while to learn the Windows 8 and I seem to be doing ok except, having problems looking @ "NEW POSTS" when I log in to the forum!
When I log in and go to "NEW POSTS" and go to one of the new posts and click on the "Show first unread post" it will take me anywhere from the beginning to the middle or page 3 of 6 of a long post! BUT NEVER to the FIRST unread post!!!!
I called the GEEK SQAUD and ask them if I had a setting set up wrong or what and they couldn't figure it out!!
It worked OK for me on my old computer with Windows XP (going to the first unread post), but this has got me stumped!
SO, is there anybody that had this problem, and figured it out or know of something that I'm doing wrong?
AND this is happening on both R-POD forums.... which makes me think I have something set up wrong!
ANY help in getting this solved will be greatly appreciated!!!

My Windows 7 computer does the same thing, while my XP machine always goes to the last unread post.

I've never used this function, but just tried it with my home laptop (Win XP) and clicked into one of the threads that was listed.  It left me at the top of the thread, not at the bottom where the latest post was.  I have 7 at work and will try it there next week.

More than likely the site is having some IE10 compatibility issue as I am sure it isn't programmed for IE10 which is what is shipped with WIN8 so you are having some issues.  WIN8 is very different.  My firm does web programming and we are finding many client sites that are needing minor fix/edits/updates to be fully IE10 (WIN8) compatible.  You could try Firefox for Chrome and see if that helps.

I have consistently had problems getting the "Post Reply" function to work by simply typing into the box! I ALWAYS have to click on an emoticon before typing, then Reply will allow me to type!  However, the emoticon does not appear in the box when my reply has been accepted.

I had the same results here at work (IE 8 on Win7) - when I clicked on New Posts, then clicked on the link for this thread, it left me at the top of the thread.

I've had odd issues with the text box for replies, various things at various times.  One thing you can try as a solution is to go into your user settings and turn off the "WYSIWYG" option for thread replies.  The plain text input mode takes away a lot of the glitches.

I checked my settings and the WYSIWYG setting is off. Has been since I joined the forum! Sigh I'm still trying different things! I'm sure I will stumble on something to get it fixed! Thanks for the info!

I'm running windows 8. I think that was what RACER X was referring to, or not?

EDIT:

Well, got off the phone with GEEK SQUAD support and they said the Windows 8 will do that! BUT.... they did say that there is a fix and should come in the next 30 days!
We will see!
Thanks everyone for the help into trying to figure this out!

It isn't necessarily WIN8 as much as it is IE10 (your internet Explorer) recognizing older websites, etc.

I have the same problem on my home computer.  When I go online via IE then it doesn't recognize which posts I have already read, which ones I haven't, and it can't navigate to the right place in a string.  However, when I go online via Firefox (I have both on my computer) it does remember and recognize exactly where left off on every different topic posting string here.

So, I just come here via Firefox now.

Well ... just thought I would drop a note and say that the laptop is working like it should (going to the first unread post).... Racer|X| - you was right about the new IE10 not recognizing the older websites. It was a quick fix... went to "tools" drop down and clicked on "Compatibility View Settings" and added this website! Hope this helps anybody else that was having the same problems and THANKS for everyone's help!

Ditto, I never think about that either.  I only use IE at work where I'm forced to - and since all of our intranet apps always get validated against the next version of IE before we get that next version we never worry about compatibility.  At home I use Opera.

For whatever reason, my Windows 7 computer started going to the last unread post yesterday.  I changed nothing, but now it is doing what I wanted it to do.  Not complaining, just amazed at how littile I understand this stuff,,,

I installed windows 8 on my computer and since then very little has worked properly. It lost files and totally destroyed Thunderbird and all my email accounts. Took me a week to get Firefox working again. I'm still having some of the problem mentioned in this thread. Turning off wysiwyg helped.
