It was a good holiday for the r-pod.  Santa brought an upgrade for the fantastic fan,  a new shower head, a cover, an electric heater and some other little goodies.  Big smile

What did you get?

Our RP-177 got a 22" flat screen on a pivoting mount, and a Dish Tailgater satellite receiver/antenna system.

I would love to post pix of the whole system, but I'm still trying to figure out how.Embarrassed

Here's a link to the Tailgater system:   http://www.getthetailgater.com - http://www.getthetailgater.com

There's also a new Sony DVD player.

The Audiovox system went away to make room.  I was not a big fan anyhow.Angry

A new pod - great gift.  We bought our pod in August.  Linda said it was my birthday present.

I forgot to mention that we also got a coleman 'directors chair' from santa.  I didn't like it at first but used it for several hours while photographing birds and it's growing on me.

Dar has often told me that if I don't get up and do something while camping the chair is going to grow on me.  I thought she was joking!

I got a book, FOIL COOKERY by Lori Herrod. It is mostly camp cooking, a lot of neat ideas in there. I acutally have been cooking on the coals in our fireplace. There just is not any better baked potato than one poked full of holes, rubbed in extra virgin olive oil, rolled in sea salt and fresh ground black pepper, twice rolled in foil and put on hot coals. turn every 15 minutes for a total of 45 minutes. when opened the potato steams and is cooked fully through and has the best flavor ever. I have also done Elk burgers with fresh chopped red onion, and chick 1/4 ers. I still have a lot to learn, but you can make pots, skillets, etc from foil. Happy Poddin and Happy Cookin.

Ok, I lied.  Not intentionally.  We drove past a Gander Mountain last week and had to stop in to browse around.  Walked out with two new anti-gravity chairs.  We bought our original 2 right when anti-gravity chairs were just coming out and we have used the heck out of them over the last ~10 years.  It was time for some new ones.

dsmiths- elk burgers and campfire potatoes - yum, what time is dinner.  I'll bring the beer.

Doug - those chairs look comfortable but kind of pricey.  I've looked at the $60 version but they had lots of plastic and seemed 'cheap'.

We bought cheaper versions for presents last Christmas, I couldn't resist and opened a box to give it a test sit.  Didn't like the comfort level much, and it did feel cheap.  Came to the conclusion that its one of those things you need to try in person first - and pay the money for - for the comfort.  We splurged on the ones we bought 10+ years ago and never regretted it, we spent 20 minutes deciding on the ones we just bought, and now I'm sure that in 10 more years I'll do it again.  I've spent entire vacations planted in my old chair so an extra $30, $40 is worth it.

I guess that makes me a chair snob.

Doug, what are the new chairs you bought at Gander? I didn't see them listed on their site.

We almost got these rocking chairs for use around the fire, but decided to get them later.  We needed to replace the anti-gravity chairs first.

This is the chair I decided on - but it was much cheaper in the store, I think I paid $79 and not the $129 shown on the website.  I liked the open mesh which will be comfortable in warm temps.  Our old chairs have mesh and are comfy when its warm out.  I also liked that the cushion travels on tracks.  Our old chairs used elastic straps which dry-rotted after a few years so I had to use clothespins to keep them up!

This is the chair my wife got.  It is a wider model and doesn't have mesh.  It was comfortable and I almost got it too, but I thought it would be too warm June-August.  I think we paid $89 and not $99.

This is the cheaper chair they had which reminded me of the chairs we bought as presents for friends/family Christmas a year ago.  Just wasn't comfortable, and the arm rests were plastic instead of wood.

It's fascinating to now see the chair capacity listed with the other specs.  Does this mean that those with "camper bodies" are now able to safely sit on one of them?  Seems our collective weight is continuing to increase.  More hiking!!  Safe Travels.

techntrek, have you had any issues with the elastic cordage on those chairs (your old ones I mean)? My dad has had one on his covered back patio for about 5 years. I ended up having to restring the whole chair with paracord. Fortunately it didn't change the comfort levels any.

Just curious. If the ones you got seem to stand the test of time, I'd like to get a couple for the Dome room. The ones I've tried sure are comfy.

Wish I could find those chairs for $79.  I'd buy a pair.   $129 just seems a bit much.

Yes, that is the main problem with our old chairs, the elastic cord is disintegrating after 10+ years of use (not stored outside).  I'm having a hard time finding new cord to restring them.

This is the brand/model of our old chairs.  We did not pay that price, LOL, so don't choke.  Even if we had, we've used them so much over the years it would have been worth the price over time.  We've spent more on a yearly basis for cheap bag chairs which weren't a tenth as comfortable and died completely after a few years.

Edited to add that I see they have their elastic cord in stock now, and relatively cheap!  Last few times I looked it wasn't in stock and I think they wanted much more.

Edited again, now I remember why I didn't buy before... shipping.  Asking over $13 for ground shipping for something so light and small is BS.

I think these are the cords you need.  Not sure what shipping is.

Looks like I can get free shipping if I order two of them (which I need), so that may be a winner, thanks.
